For Kinder Morgan Energy Partners Your program (worksheet) keeps asking for description of expenses, such as drilling expenses. That information is for a General Partner only, not for me. The worksheet insists on an answer, and would not allow me to e-file without one. This is very disturbing that this error is in the program.
software was great , saved me from paying ! Only section that I had to ask the help desk was winning a prize and the 1099- misc form how to properly enter it.
The program (whether online or on disc) doesn't tell you that they charge for the state return. They got me last year, and then the IRS sent me a letter, saying that they hadn't even received my Federal return. This year, they got my mom with the state return bite they take. So I'll file my own state return, and just mail it in. The program does a good job, and saves you some time. I also know some good accountants who would do the same thing for you, and for about the same price. If you don't know any accountants, or you prefer to file yourself, online, this is a good alternative, just be ready to pay for the state return. It's not much, but if you don't pay for it out of credit/debit, then deducting it from your refund is a higher fee. That's my only complaint; otherwise, I would recommend it. Honestly, if you have the option, deduct taxes from your paycheck. Then you don't have to put money aside for tax time, and can expect a refund. It's a lot smarter than getting the whole amount, no matter what you're earning. I'm getting back enough to make some student loan payments, or buy textbooks for school, because I paid as I earned. It's the smarter way to go, and then the government has it: no problem.
