Charitable Contributions from my IRA. The answers were confusing.
This was not my first time using TurboTax. Uploading basic information from my 2012 return was very helpful. Since none of my account information had change, I was able to complete the income and personal information with no problems. My only problem was that the distribution from my IRA to a Charitable Organization was a hassle.
Turbo Tax walks you through every facet of the tax system so you do not have to an accountant to figure your taxes. This the third year I have used Turbo Tax and I will be back next year.
for instructions on box 13, I recommend you ask if your current employer (for whom you received the w-2) have a retirement plan that you are covered. I initially checked that I had a retirement plan (as I am retired from my job of 30 years, but am now working part-time at a job without a retirement plan. I called the IRS to ask whether I would be entitled to take a traditional IRA out (even though my income was outside the limit). I was told my circumstances allowed me to take a traditional IRA and deduct it.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
At the moment of Efiling, the program balked, saying that it had to be updated. I had just done that and did it again, with no success. In the end, the Intuit help pages suggested rebooting and reinstalling the Turbo Tax program, which did eventually work. Not a good thing to have to do for such a well worn piece of software.
I love being able to down load all my investment information including dividends, stock sales etc.The time I save using turbo-tax is measured in days. Before turbo-tax I was always late or rushing down to the post office at 11:45. The process was pure agony.
