Have used now for over ten years which makes the following year faster.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Used for years

We have used Intuit products for years and consider them the most useful & beneficial software products on the market. I track finances to the penny and if I detect a glitch it seems to be fixed before I can report it. Great company, great products and great service.

Some attention should be put to making e filling easier. A recommendation to mail in return after having made a payment is up setting.

Retired Tax Returns
on April 1, 2014

After completing calculating my taxes with TurboTax, I set up a spreadsheet and calculated my taxes manually. The results were not the same. I went back and analyzed the returns line by line and looked at the 1040 instructions where there were differences. Turns out TurboTax was correct and I would have paid higher taxes if I had just done them manually. On the down side, every year TurboTax asks a number of questions regarding payments from my pensions, such as are they RMDs or do I want to do Three-Year averaging. These questions do not apply to pensions, just IRAs and 401-Ks. Other than that, I am satisfied with TurboTax and will continue to us it in spite of its cost. I would have given TurboTax 5 stars if the interface was just a little bit faster to use; i.e. some simple questions at the beginning that would have cut out unneeded steps and if the "Continue" button was always in the same place.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Excellent as always

I have been using Turbo Tax (previously MacIn Tax for my Mac) for over 20 years. It has always been quite accurate, thorough, always up-to-date and very intuitive. It has the ability to transfer my data flawlessly from my financial institutions and previous returns.Electronic filing on Turbo Tax is a breeze. Doing amended returns with Turbo Tax is also worry free and their guidance is very much appreciated on getting the amendment done correctly.
The superb guidance provided by the extensive help screens are a god-send. They are a great help in cutting through the IRS mumbo jumbo.
Cheers to an excellent program.

Glitch with Mac, made it less enjoyable
on April 1, 2014

The software was easy to use and it automatically found the proper deductions/forms for us to fill in. It beat finding them on the IRS site and having to follow their sometimes cryptic instructions.
The only issue was when trying to e-file from my Mac. A message about not being able to e-file because of an update appeared. After going to TurboTax, Check for updates, and following the update screen, we still weren't able to e-file. A search on their site did not reveal any clues about resolving this issue.
After updating again and rebooting the computer, both the federal and state forms were able to e-file. Apparently, Turbo Tax does not shut down and keeps running while updating on the Mac. This means that a force shut down or a reboot is needed in order for the update to take.
This issue was very annoying. The resolution needs to be communicated better as we were not able to find it on their support site. Since this issue was so annoying and the resolution was not properly communicated (up front and center on support site would be nice), I was left feeling like I should let people know how to resolve the issue.
If you receive the error about not being able to e-file because an update is needed for your Turbo Tax software on the Mac, save everything (file, save). Then go to TurboTax, Check for updates. Follow the instructions. Turbo Tax will start back up. After updating, exit Turbo Tax and reboot your Mac. Open up Turbo Tax and follow the directions to e-file. This is what worked for me.
If it doesn't for you, then fill out an incident report by filling in your information on their website. Then, give them a call. Hopefully, this issue will be fixed by next tax season.
