my 2012 taxes did not load making it much harder to complete the return ( carryover losses ) I e-filed the federal return but wanted to mail the state return. This is very cumbersome and not user friendly at all
Would not efile - broke connection. only program doing it. all other programs function normal. TurboTax would connect for updates but would not efile return. really aggravating!!!!!!
I like the convenience, clarity and speed of using Turbo Tax for the preparation and filing of both the Federal and State Returns. These same attributes lead to lose of understanding the details of the tax law.
Easy guide for entering deductions is just that, very easy. It also appears to be non- intimidating for one who does not know much about what topics there are for entering deductions. Overall flow is easy and ability to go back at any time is a plus as well.
I have been using TurboTax since Windows 3.11, when it was installed with a set of 3 1/2" floppies, and when the IRS hadn't yet approved any printable forms.
Many decades later, the continual refinement process has made it a joy to use.
TurboTax keeps track of all the pertinent previous year information, including personal info, carryover losses, depreciation on property placed in service, etc. Tax data can be imported from Quicken or QuickBooks. Tax document information can be imported directly from the issuing company right from the internet.
The filing process is straight forward and painless. Since I am fairly comfortable with doing taxes, I like using the option that allows me to choose what I work on at each step (Wages & Income, Deductions & Credits, etc) For the novice, TurboTax will walk through the tax filing process. If one needs to look directly at the forms, one can do that also.
TurboTax has definitely improved over the years.
The final review catches any fields that need to be filled in and the audit review gives me additional confidence.
There used to be a way one could estimate what next year's tax return would look like (using the current year's tax code). It would be helpful if they put that capability back, including adjusting the carry over losses and depreciation schedules.
I noticed that the State eFiling fee has increased again. Perhaps, there should be a product version that provides for free eFile for both Federal and one State return.
