Filing Taxes made easy
on March 31, 2014

I like the way Turbo tax walks you through your income tax filing. From income to deductions and capital gains, I am sure turbo tax covers all of the bases.
Have been using Turbotax for years and never have had any issues. Very easy to walk through all the various phases involved in filing including e-filing. Enjoy seeing how the return amount changes as you walk through the forms so there are no surprises.
Surprisingly, Covers most everything. I'm a minister, so have a dual tax-status': both an employee (w/a W-2) AND self-employed (pay own estimated taxes), with a housing allowance.. That has certain complications; Tax-preparers usually have problems with that; TurboTax does not.
Was disappointed that it was so difficult to follow, through the Health Insurance section (on the Mass. State form), and determining the MCC status. I had both Private as well as Gov't-subsidised (Medicare/Advantage plan) insurance during the year, and TurboTax stumbled around, not able to quite lead me through that. Directions need to be MUCH CLEARER!
Directions were VERY complex through the "Replace one vehicle with another" section, for business use. Just when I thought I was finally through the labyrinth, it says "Go back and Find the 'How Do I enter Traded-In Property' window, and complete that before..." Wow - that section took as much time as ALL the rest of the tax return!
at the insistence of a relative, we had our taxes "reviewed" by a local company to see "all that we missed with Turbo Tax." Needless to say, we did better with Turbo Tax, and when we suggested deductions that Turbo led us to, the other company agreed with it. They just didn't suggest it for us. We definitely saved money with Turbo Tax.
Everything was cruising along beautifully until I tried to submit. Then I got the dreaded error that it would not validate. After uninstalling, updating, uninstalling, etc. it finally worked. Hopefully this will not be an issue next year.
In my 2011 Turbo Tax forms, a 2010 overpayment to an IRA, which had been withdrawn/corrected PRIOR to the filing date of 4/15/2011, resulted in an entry of $102 being entered in line 58. I did not notice/appreciate the entry in 2011 or when it got carried forward in 2012. This year, I attempted to correct it and could find no way to remove it. I will need to send amended returns this year for each of the three years.
It looks like I will have no recourse but to forgo having my information transferred and I will have to re-enter all of my information in my Tax Year 2014 forms in order to avoid the problem of having this incorrect entry carried forward for a fourth year.
