We use a US mailing address, but work overseas as missionaries. Therefore the 1040 correctly shows a US address, but the Schedule C does not allow us to enter a foreign address for our "business." Also, since there is no W-2 income (earned income is shown on Schedule C via a 1099), it is not possible to force a Form 2555 to be attached so we can establish continuity in overseas residency.
This could be done if we chose to file hardcopies by mail, but we are trying hard to file electronically, and anytime we try something like above that's out of the ordinary, the program seems to fight it (disallow it).
The app is easy to use, but beware you will be charged numerous fees to file your taxes, charge via credit card etc. I do like the fact you can transfer last year's info into the new year's tax form.
I completed my return before March 26th. I waited a few weeks to file my federal and state returns. Today (March 31st). I checked everything over again. It was fine. I was unable to submit my returns because the software had been revised. If the software is that smart, then the system should have been good enough to notify me on March 26th that I must upgrade the software. I did the upgrades two times without success. I did it a third time and then restarted my new iMac. Then, I was able to complete the process.
The Manitowoc School County code was a real pain. The state should accept $3717 from me no matter what county I live in. During the past seven years, I lived in three counties that year. How would I have handled that? I didn't owe any state taxes that year, but it could happen again.
