Other than the confusing summary during the "Federal Review", I thought Turbo Tax was very easy to use. It was a surprise to me that we would no longer receive the tax credit when our child turned 17 in 2013. She still lives at home, still in high school (full-time student). Maybe this is a topic that Turbo Tax could explain in more depth in the future? How is it that we don't get a tax credit for her, and yet we make too much money for her to qualify for a Pell Grant for college? So, in other words, as far as the taxes go, she's too old to be considered a dependent, but for Federal aid for college, she's still a dependent and has to report what her parents make.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I don't like the personal information request that pops up right after launching a return. This is followed by an "error message" indicating I did not fill in the information and asking if I "really want to continue" - VERY ANNOYING.
It's very frustrating when you follow the Easy Guide to enter foreign taxes paid and it keeps popping out back to the deductions page before prompting for the amount of foreign taxes withheld on your Canadian Pension Income.
To override Turbo Tax, you need bring up form 1116 manually to enter the amount of Canadian Tax Withheld on pension income from Canada.
