The use of the State filing without e-filing needs to be offered with better guidance or else a reasonable consumer is likely to be forced to conclude that Turbotax really wants to steer you into the state e-file for the additional financial benefit of the tax program publisher, not the taxpayer who purchased the program. Another small complaint, perhaps just my confusion, has to do with the LTC Insurance premiums and how this is handled from a federal form to the Oregon form where there is more built in incentive/tax advantage for us to purchase LTC Insurance. In brief, it seems to aggregate the joint filing information from Schedule A and that leaves things muddled for the Oregon worksheet for that expense. Overall though, it is a really good program that allows folks to file without a paid expert preparer, saving money and offering really solid guidance and year to year performance.
What's great about it: Very much appreciate the interview format and the ability to switch between forms and interview view.
What's not so great: Some specific case questions seem to be programmed for but not well explained
So once again I have used Turbo Tax online and desktop versions to finish my federal and state tax returns. Had many questions, and received excellent support from the help desk. She stayed with me as I downloaded the desktop version and walked me through the additional forms I needed.
While it does take a long time (gotta answer all those questions!), it's not really a deterrent. My returns are complicated, and asking the questions helps me figure it all out. I like the fact that it fills out the forms and at the top how much money I have to pay (or get a refund). All in all, while lengthy, does an excellent job at figuring out the tax returns and filing them. Really couldn't be simpler!
What's great about it: Excellent Technical Service
I have used turbo tax for many years-the issue with printing the returns was a nightmare in 2013- unable to e-file state-was VERY FRUSTRATING- there should have been a correction made to the software- Friends had the same problem -- This issue should have been addressed- it was not
What's great about it: Easy to use- guided with many tips
What's not so great: PRINTING RETURNS- ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been using Turbo Tax for years and I'm extremely happy with it. I manage to do my taxes by myself in a reasonable amount of time. This year I didn't even have to call for expert tech support although my taxes were cut and dry.
What's great about it: I can do my own taxes without too much difficulty
What's not so great: During tax season the wait for expert help on the phone is long
I appreciate having Turbo Tax to do my taxes. The ease of completing the process was less stressful than I thought. I don't know if I did it right but it's done.
What's great about it: Fairly simple to follow
What's not so great: Some questions I didn't understand
