Overall I love turbo tax. This year we had a slightly more complex situation than others as we sold a home and bought a new one. While it would have been nice for reassurance to ask some questions to a human, overall turbo tax guided questions are detailed enough that I had a high degree of confidence that I was covered.
What's great about it: Love the guided walk through of all the different sections (income, deductions, etc.)
What's not so great: If you have any special situations it is nice to be able to talk them through with a human
I like the fact that I can do it in my own home on my time. I like being able to stop and gather paperwork or information that will impact my return. With tax prepares, they go by what you give them but you don't know all the loop holes in the system that may apply to your situation, therefore they don't ask for information that may help you on your return and you don't know to provide that information.
What's great about it: LIKE THE STEP BY STEP FORMAT WITH GUIDANCE
Didn't have a problem filing; however it still charged me for what was advertised and purchased as a free state return. Would not let me proceed to e-file unless I entered my payment info.
I have used Turpotax for 4 years and this may be my last. I find it harder and harder to figure out. I can't even get a printed copy of my filed (I think) returns!
Thought that Turbo Tax always prompted you when there were new updates. Didn't realize state tax update wasn't in until I got to that section. Had to send an email for update and it delayed completion of my return.
What's great about it: Walks you through every step to ensure success
What's not so great: State sales tax info was not automatically updated
