software did not tell me about Form 8453 until the vary last minute after filing. I had to search for the reason form 8949 was not filled in before e-filing. I went on line and obtained 8453 from the govt. {t seems to me that you should have alerted me right after the form 8949 was generated. I would like to not print the 1043-ES payment vouchers. I never follow the estimated payments, I make my own payment values which never agree with your numbers. Mine are usually higher.
What's great about it: Process and organization are excBirchellent
What's not so great: Form 8543 need, estimated payment vouchers
I knew I would have to pay out this year, this guided tour of the tax return made it (Almost) painless. We've been using TurboTax for several years and it only gets better.
I have used TurboTax for many years. It keeps getting easier to understand the entries as you walk through them. Not having to worry about the confusing new tax laws has always been a strong part for me. It has also helped me through some investment topics that could easily been way over my head. Importing the previous year's tax data is useful to me. Filling in some blanks so that you don't have to repeat them year after year is nice, but the best part for me is the ability to compare entries from last year to this year. On the negative side I have trouble finding the sections dealing with being an independent worker. I usually end up doing a search for the business section. It is on the income sheet it is just not very obvious (I think it is in the "other" grouping). The other section I really have to search for is the one on estimated taxes. As a contractor I like to play what if before I finalize my estimated tax entry for next year. It is annoying to search for it, but I admit it is not so bad if I remember to flag it. Overall it is a great product that I will use again next year.
What's great about it: General ease of use and use of prior year's data
What's not so great: Hard to find some special categories
TurboTax is an excellent product that enables users with some Tax knowledge to do their complicated returns themselves without needing to go to a professional preparer. The downloading option from financial providers is an indispensable feature especially when dealing with reporting myriad data on extensive financial transactions.
What's great about it: I have used TurboTax for several years and would not have been able to do my own return without it.
What's not so great: None that I have encountered
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
Still awkward in places - I find I have to backtrack because the instructions do not prompt you well enough for information or you don't feel things are called out well enough. I entered business tolls in the wrong place for example.
