TurboTax helps keep me up-to-date and more aware of new tax regulations. I like that it walks me through and educates me along the way. As far as I can tell, TT is as thorough and dependable, possibly even more so, than the brand name tax preparers some of my co-workers use. I feel pretty confident that TT has figured everything correctly, optimized my tax returns, and helped to head off any potential "trouble" like an audit.
What's great about it: Easy-to-follow, thorough, educational, keeps me in-charge of my finances, convenient
I've used this every year for over 10 years except once. That year, I used a tax preparer and had to step in to avoid an $8,000 tax loss. That was mostly my doing, but TT gives me the tool to effectively do it myself. Without TT, I'd be locked into the preparers.
What's great about it: Easy to follow the step by step progression
What's not so great: Difficult to go back selected locations in the middle of the step-by-step process
Had problems with the paid mortgage interest and points. One section showed a larger total than the total at the end. I spent too much time reviewing this to find out which figure Turbo Tax used.
Also general sales tax forms were there, but the figure wasn't added in originally. Took an extra time to see the result.
Too many questions about insurance and products asked after tax is completed before you are allowed to file. May look for a different tax product next year.
What's great about it: Like INTUITS IT"S DEDUCTIBLE
The update process is painful especially when you are ready to file electronically and you can't because the software thinks there is an update that you haven't installed. I kept installing and installing the update(s) and it was never fully complete. I had to quit the program a couple of times before I could finally transmit electronically.
Also it would be really nice to be able to review what's been entered without having to go through the entire process steps again. Give us an option as to where we want to go specifically
