as good of an experience as you can have doing taxes, a couple of items did not transfer over from last year and the miles for charity is not easy for many trips of different lengths I have used Turbo Tax for many years and keep using it.
What's great about it: asked all the questions
What's not so great: some information did not transfer from last year
You modified the refund section worksheet to allow a portion of a refund to be applied to next year's estimated tax. This was a great improvement from the past , where we had to go into the form to make it happen before.
Although the website says you can transfer former years' returns done on a pc to a Mac, it didn't work. Got through the entire Federal form only to find this out. Spent over 3 hours on phone with Intuit help desk (very, very pleasant and professional) after return could not be opened again after I downloaded the state return, which caused it to crash. In the end they established that the problem was due to changing from Windows to Mac. Had to input all info in from scratch. Another BIG issue, in my opinion, is the lack of a "Save and Continue" button on the Mac version. Once my husband accidently closed the return and I lost everything entered since prior save.
What's great about it: great line by line instructions; monitor of how entries affected refund/payment due
What's not so great: no "Save and Continue" button for Mac users, could not transfer last year's return info from pc to my new Mac
I've been doing my own taxes for years. Started using Parsons Technology in the nineties & switched to Turbo Tax when Intuit bought them. Every year they've made it easier to use..
My only complaint with Turbotax is the inability to omit certain individual pages from what is printed, such as estimated tax vouchers. This wastes both paper, and, more importantly, ink.
Sometimes found it hard to return quickly to a previous topic where I might need to edit an entry...had to use the "Back" button more than I would have liked. (Possibly "user error"!)
What's great about it: Readily handled details of complex forms, e.g. K-1s
