Disappointing & error-filled
on March 26, 2014

About 75% of the data that should have been displayed from my 2012 return was either blank or on the wrong line. This is new as I haven't experienced it before. The Iowa state return was bug-ridden and not properly updated until late March with changes known before January 1. In one area, interest, one got into a continuous error loop where there was no error. I found a work-around that TurboTax support hadn't figured out. Web showed numerous complaints on this. TurboTax still hasn't fixed issue of many years where data (e.g. interest & dividends) in lists that are carried forward from other areas are randomly displayed on various lines with many blank lines. Unless one knows enough to scroll down and look, it will appear that data didn't transfer so one may duplicate it by entering again. Have had to file amended returns in past years to correct duplications after I discovered this. Quality control and attention to particularly state changes are poor.
What's great about it: Finally got it to work
What's not so great: Bug ridden, didn't carry forward much of 2012 return data

Great service! So much easier than doing taxes "by hand".

Long time user, gets worse every year

It seems like every year Turbo Tax gets less intuitive to use and becomes more buggy. Simply pressing the "back" button doesn't take me back it takes me back to a different section which then skipped all of my W2's. Not impressed. I wasn't very happy with the UI last year and this year will probably be my last with Turbotax. What's sad is I never used to have any issues or bugs and the UI was far superior. I'm not sure what happened but I want the old versions back.
What's great about it: It works, taxes filed
What's not so great: UI, bugs

Turbo 2013

Would like things summarized for my records - Dividends could be on a spreadsheet showing info for all the reported boxes - instead of generating a separate page for every investment. Would like a 1-2 page list of all charities and amts - not a separate page for every one. Enormous waste of ink, paper - huge storage problems if all of this Turbo stuff is printed, plus the return itself, plus all back-up documentation. Remember, we must keep at least 6 years of stuff.
"Help" box is terrible - should be able to print in something such as Form 8949 and at least find out what it is. It does not understand most of what I type in.
Hate the fact that every time I access the return the option is always to let the software lead me through - I want to do my own thing and enter data as I receive it, not going through the tiresome business of telling Turbo over an over again to leave me alone to do it myself. I wouldn't even be using the software if I were not manually handicapped - very difficult for me to do a lot of writing by hand - easier to type.
What's great about it: Changes are instantly reflected in all schedules
What's not so great: Cumbersome pages of back up data
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Best Yet!

I have used TurboTax from the beginning (1999) . It is so easy now to file electronically, both Federal and State, and to print only those documents you need for your files and to download the more detailed pages for your records. And payments are all electronic too. ' You've come a long way baby. ' Thank you.
What's great about it: Easy to follow and you can choose fast path
What's not so great: None

Efficient As Usual

Great software. Just be sure to review the educational expenses. If you take the Lifelong Learning or American Opportunity Credit, be sure you don't take the educational expense (college) deduction.
What's great about it: Links to previous years returns, Quicken and Institutional Downloads
What's not so great: Educational (college) expenses can easily be double deducted
