Only Way to Go

Tax or accounting knowledge is not required when using TurboTax. It takes you through everything step by step. Even an adolescent could do it.
What's great about it: Anyone can do their own taxes using TurboTax
What's not so great: Cost of electronic filing for state taxes is way too high

Why do I have to wait for 3 times before a box comes up where I can stop the stupid question about importing? I will NEVER import! Have a box right away. This is annoying!!

Also, why don't you recognize Washington Sate as a Non - Income Tax State. Annoying.

Quick and easy

The software asks for all the info it needs and also imports info from W2's and banks. Great program. Also imports data from last years return and finds all all the deductions.
What's great about it: You don't need to know taxes to use turbo tax
What's not so great: cost

Please contact me if you need a copy of the IRS ruling; then generate a 1098-T screen that asks for all the relevant data in each box and does not automatically generate a self-employment tax requirement.
What's great about it: virtually everything
What's not so great: Not clear on how to prevent 1098-T stipend income from generating self-employment tax, which, per IRS, is exempt

I have a difficult income tax return to do and Turbo Tax handled it all and filed out forms I had no idea I needed.
What's great about it: Covered all aspects of filing, all forms and worksheets
What's not so great: impossible to edit address on 1098 form

Slowed me down

not very helpful when handling oil and gas royalties-had to complete several times and manipulate program to get it to accept data

What's not so great: can't short circuit some steps-must follow all

Very easy to do income taxes this year. The import functions are great.
What's great about it: imports w-2s, import last years data
What's not so great: didin't import interest income from Chase
