We dread doing our taxes...not the greatest record keepers in the world and let's just say that we always wait till the last minute. TurboTax makes me better on both fronts. It's fast (45 minutes and I'm done) and it walks us through each step of the process in such a manner that we never feel overwhelmed and somehow we can identify each document we need based on what the software tells us what we should be looking for.
Suggestion, send our tax return to a TurboTax "cloud" and save it there till next year when it's needed again. Between hard drive crashes, new laptop and such we never seem to be able to find last years returns.
What's great about it: Painless
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I have used TurboTax for several years it seems easier to complete the taxes every year. It uses previous years taxes to help avoid missing a deduction or income you have not been 1099 notified.
What's great about it: Asks all pertinent questions for income and deductions.
I usually do not encounter any problems and have been using Turbo Tax the last few years. However this year, I was told forms weren't ready and received an email a week or so later that they were ready. When I went to file it still would not let me even though I was getting e-mails saying they were. Eventually, it let me file after entering info all over again
1, Lacked some info of disposition of medical expenses in excess of allowable on form C, and weather remainder was applied properly to for A. 2. Annoyed by inability to revert to current step when switching to and from Form View.
What's great about it: Good easy step
What's not so great: Missing some info and return after Form view.
I will never purchase turbotax again, I've spent to many hours trying to figure out how to make the state tax 1099 forms work, I thought TurboTax was a good product but now I wonder how accurate it is, considering the errors I'm seeing in state forms.
What's great about it: Federal worked fine, like it's suppose to.
What's not so great: The Mississippi state tax forms are incorrect, it doesn't transferr federal data to 1099 forms, and keeps giving errors.
On my W-2 Box 14, there is amount for "RSDIV". Restricted stock dividends are income that is already included in Box 1 as wages. TurboTax deducted it as state taxes on Schedule A. This is an error.
