State of Confusion
on March 21, 2014

On one hand it said we were due a Refund from our State Taxes while at the same time it said we owed an amount that did not total the estimated tax amount for the quarter. That owed amount should have been labeled as an estimated tax payment. It caused confusion.
What's great about it: Easier this year for Charitable Deductions
Quick and easy tax filing. Did both Federal & NY state after work tonight. Only PA to go. Has to be done separately due to their process, but really went quick and easy. My husband retired this year and I wasn't looking forward to entering his Social Security and figuring all that out. But it was really easy.
What's great about it: Collected data that remains the same from last year's return
What's not so great: Need to walk through a lot of steps I didn't need.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
I am lucky to have a very complicated return ( monthly bank statement sometimes 56 pages) that I always did by hand before I started using Turbo, now it's a breeze!
Additionally with no exemptions, I like the way deductions are laid out for me to find.
What's great about it: Takes care of everything, and I mean everything.
What's not so great: Ability to print single page your working on.
my work time was dropped thanks to the computer doing the calculations and filling out the forms based on simple answers to question. then reviewing them and checking for accuracy was a huge plus, as was comparing last years to this years
great product I will use again as long as I continue to do my own tax returns.
I've been using TurboTax for many years. Simple, comprehensive. Unfortunately, some less used Federal forms are not included with the program, which forces me to file by mail. TurboTax now costs more because the cost for e-filing the Federal return is included.
What's great about it: Easy to navigate
What's not so great: Some Federal forms not included and I need to file by mail
TurboTax is good, but I don't understand why when I use it every year and start off each year by having it find my prior year return data and import it, it doesn't import ALL info such as carryovers etc. I have to re-enter too much info each year
What's great about it: Consistent
What's not so great: Doesn't store all info from prior year returns
Too many unnecessary questions asked and made to look like you're saving on surprise items. Awkward to use and understand the wraparound on credits, exclusions and additions. In order to understand the real marginal tax rate one has to fabricate different scenarios and force the answers. I also had to force info from my SSA-1099 into "forms" at the end in order to include my fed tax withholding, a program bug I reported.
What's great about it: Carries over last years info and crunches all the numbers.
What's not so great: Hides useful info on how rates and
