I WAS DONE FAILY QUICKLY AND I COULD GO BACK AND CHANGE THINGS. I COULD ALSO PLAY SCENARIOS AND SEE THE CHANGES, THEN GO BACK AND CHANGE THEM. EASY TO USE. BUT IF I MOVE, I'LL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE NEW STATE FORM.
What's great about it: QUICK
What's not so great: CAN ONLY FILE ONE STATE FOR FREE
Generally quick and streamlined. Loved the automatic filling of identification and other data from previous years. Hated the difficult and laborious process to fill in charitable contributions. We need a chart from last year that we can modify easily, with options to add delete entries. For our 50 or so contributions, it took about 7 or 8 superfluous keystrokes or mouse clicks just to get to date and amount.
What's great about it: Takes you by the hand in an orderly manner
What's not so great: Deduction forms not set up for easy input
I've been using Turbo Tax Deluxe for Federal and State returns for over 10 years and have been completely satisfied.
Initially I itemized but the past 3 years as a Senior with few items to deduct, I have gone to the Standard Deduction which speeds up and simplifies my return.
Turbo Tax is so easy as they walk you through all the sections you need to complete all your Forms.
I've used Turbo Tax for many years and this year was tough. I had to review several times to get to Teacher expenses, it was hard to pay for the State Tax filing, I got NO confirmation that my Federal was filed, and I was asked for username and password for my email account, but I have on UN nor PW. I would like an account, how do I get one? I have confirmation that my State was filed.
While the printed file copy is very complete, if there were an option to print selected pages for a file copy, for my purposes that would be adequate. Current print option is all or nothing (I know you can pick one range)
I like the fact that it is very thorough and easy to use and understand and it gives helpful references to IRS forms and regulations. I also like how it compares which is the best way to file, using the standard deduction and the itemized one.
What's great about it: Easy to use and like the detailed questions to max my refund.
A problem came up when completing a K-1 and there was foreign income included. I input the foreign country and the data as listed on the K-1 but the review failed. It kept saying to enter the foreign country--which I had already done. I finally went to the tax form and entered the "gross income from all sources" manually and this fixed the problem and the review went through without a problem then. This should have been automatically entered when I entered the various data & answered the questions. This needs to be fixed for next year.
What's great about it: Everything worked well, even handled the K-1's & Limited Partnerships without too many problems.
What's not so great: There seems to be a problem with the software when there is foreign income on a K-1.
