TurboTax works. That is the reason it has been around so long. The one feature I would like to see is a better system for explaining the questions asked in the interview, like links to IRS publications or more specific references than the TurboTax help.
What's great about it: Guided Interview
What's not so great: Some Interview Questions Not Well Explained
I have used this software for many years because It makes doing my taxes fun and efficient. This year I was able to complete everything in an afternoon. For the first time I had a minor problem. The e file would not work. The support staff helped me and fixed the problem with one phone call. I plan to use this software every year for my taxes.
What's great about it: The software always reminds me to put everything in.
The program in several areas required connection to the internet. It would not connect on my desktop. It simply said there is not an internet connection (when I knew darn well I was connected). If the program has problems with Firewall or whatever the program should say so. I could not find a way around the problem. I had to go to another computer (which I fortunately have) reload all my data and successfully complete the filing. NOT TOO GOOD FOR THE VERY HIGH PRICE.
What's great about it: Filling in forms was easy - liked it
What's not so great: Would not communicate with the internet - a very needed feature
While entering a Pension the question is asked if the amount is the Required Minimum Amount as if it were and IRA. For us over 70.5 years old there is no Required Minimum Amount for a Pension. A Pension is not an IRA. This I did not understand and is confusing when entering the data.
What's great about it: Overall I have used Turbo Tax for the past 20 years and really like the product. I have found it easy and through.
What's not so great: How Pensions are treated the same as IRAs for those of us over 70.5 years old.
Turbo Tax was easy to use and provided additional tax information to guide me in making decisions when I was in doubt. The step by step approach encouraged me to keep on going and it was easy to make revisions and update information. I liked the trouble shooting which pointed out areas that needed to be reviewed. Free e-filing was great too!
What's great about it: Walks you through step by step; provides additional instructions to answer your q's; alerts you when items need review
What's not so great: nothing
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
Preview of actual 1040 tax forms as each section is being completed would be helpful instead of waiting until the end to print. Prior order listing of Medical topics to be covered, would be helpful, so documentation, receipts, and etc. could be organized prior to data input. Example, prescriptions, medical professionals, and etc.
What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: Have to wait until the end to review forms and etc.
