Why not use TurboTax?

TurboTax software is the best tax preparation I have ever used. The unique interview style questions on the screen result in a completely accurate personalized return. You never have to worry that you are forgetting anything that you should be claiming. You don't waste any time reading documentation that doesn't apply to your situation.
Most importantly, you are not overpaying for some local tax preparation "expert" who you don't know, and probably will never see again in your life.
Save your money! Why not use TurboTax instead! I did!

MADE INCOME TAX FILING EASIER

I rely on Turbo Tax to do all of the figuring for me and to KNOW the forms/rules/etc. for filing. It's easy to walk through income, deductions etc. but would be nicer if it didn't continue to take you back through prior pages so many times. Once a kind of deduction is completed, go to the next one without going back to the beginning of deduction 1.
What's great about it: ALL OF THE FIGURING IS DONE BY TURBO TAX
What's not so great: TAKES YOU BACK OVER PREVIOUS PAGES TOO MANY TIMES
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I've used Turbo tax for 13 years and it has saved me money every year including this year by reducing what I had to pay by almost $500

A lot of problems this year

I don't like the way Turbo Tax handles HSAs. It doesn't know that if I am over 65 that I can no longer contribute to my HSA if I am still employed and have a HDHP thru my employer.
I could not print the entire file copy for my records from T. T., but had to go to the saved PDF file in "My Documents" and print it from there. TT would only print the last page of the file.
I had a hard time correcting an error I had made using easy steps when I tried to go "back", it would never get me to the place where I made the original input error. I had to go under "File" -> "forms" and find the exact place on the form to make the correction.
This is the first year that I have had so many problems with Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Does a great job of covering all of the steps
What's not so great: Very difficult to go back and correct a form once it has been completed. Had to go to the individual form to fix it.

I am a CPA who has been out of "public" and in industry for 25 years. It is impossible for me to stay current on all personal tax law and without Turbo Tax I would not be comfortable doing my on return. It is a great product

Under Construction??

I am perplexed that the FL state sales tax deduction was "under construction," (supposedly the fault of the feds,) and expected 12/31/2013. However, on 3/17/14 when I filed, it was still unavailable with no explanation. It was estimated as a $700. deduction! Will I get a later adjustment?? Don't know, but I went ahead and filed just to be done with it.
This is a totally automated system, there is no help line with a human involved. I have used turbotax in the past, and so did Timothy Geitner, if you recall his confirmation hearings when he explained his erroneous tax return, so I will assume it is not perfect. However, it was a bit more imperfect this year. Like how can you sell a product that states it is under construction and then file the return? Thing is, unless you compare other online products, or go to a human, you will never really know for sure if you might have gotten a bigger refund or maybe end up in the pokey. I guess I'll leave it to chance.
What's great about it: User friendly
What's not so great: Under construction, no human to be found.

Rrefund every year

I've been using this product for several years now. It help me plan for future years, adjust my donations, income tax withholdings and predict form year to year my refund and taxes owed. Thanks to TurboTax I have been able to get a refund every year and no longer have to go through the anxiety of the unknown! TurboTax is awesome!!!
What's great about it: Easy to user, quick , accurate, refund every year
What's not so great: Could improve features to review the forms and search manually vs. via navigated walk thru
