So many bugs with NYS

If you don't enter your long-term care insurance premiums during the federal review (and normally one would not if one knows in advance that one will not exceed 7.5% AGI with medical), then there is no place to add it in the NYS interview. Which is silly, since NYS gives credit for that insurance even if not deducted in the federal schedule A. The NYS interview asks if you paid that insurance, but then has no way to enter the $. So, it took me 3 hours to figure out I had to go back to the federal interview in order to fix the error, since the state interview leaves you clueless with no instructions. Also, TurboTax kept thinking we were civil union for NY even though we clearly stated married in the federal interview -- so it got us stuck in a circle we could not fix, it kept saying we could not file NY as married filing jointly since NYS does not recognize civil union. But we are married, and kept getting error message. Going back to the federal worksheets and re-checking some boxes got rid of the error messages, but the printed NYS return omitted one of our names on the main form! So I could not e-file the NYS and instead had to print, and then hand-write in the missing name, and then mail the thing in. And do;t get me started on the Form NYC 1127 for city employees, that is the worst interface. , it does not account for refunds of 1127 payment previously deducted (it should ask in the NYS income interview If I has any and then account for it on the 1127). I should not have to do work arounds for things that probably affect 1000s of NYS filers. Sigh.
What's great about it: keeps my records year to year

Easier than I thought

I would recommend this to anyone who is comfortable with a computer and with keeping good records of their finances. If not, they will have trouble. But then I can't understand anyone not keeping good records!
What's great about it: walked me through nicely
What's not so great: Had a little difficulty in finding how to input my charity miles

I have been using Turbo Tax for several years now. It's the only way to go.

Same problem as last year - on the e-File screen

I cannot believe that Intuit cannot fix the recurring problems for those of us with suffixed names.........There is no spot on the identity signature screen for a prefix (Dr., Mr, Mrs, etc....) and most importantly no spot for a suffix (Jr in my case). This complicates the e-File process, at least for Massachusetts, which has a separate signature screen for those e-Filing. Most distressing.
Building on my experience last year, I removed the Jr suffix from the 'full name' entry box, saved and exited, and re-opened to be able to complete the e-File.

What's great about it: Q&A from TurboTax was great
What's not so great: e-File screen would not accept my name with Jr suffix. Same as 2012
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

I've been using Turbo Tax several years and never had a problem. I recommend it to anybody. I am using Deluxe version and it is very understandable and I actually enjoy doing my taxes with it. Thanks Turbo Tax!

Used turbotax for many years. Last year thought I would try the HR Block software. Needless to say I returned to turbotax. The software while lengthy I believe is very thorough. It really helps if you stay in tuned to the tax laws through the year. If not, there is great tools to assist you along the way. Feel very confident this software provides you the best alternative to a paid professional.
