Makes doing your own taxes about as easy as it can be. What I like is that if I discover an error or a missed income source or deduction, all forms are corrected automatically. Electronic filing and fast refund is another nice advantage.
What's great about it: Fast and Accurate, Checks for common mistakes, Very easy to make corrections.
What's not so great: Could have provided more help on Form 1116 regarding what I needed to fill in.
I HAVE BEEN USING THIS PRODUCT FOR YEARS. INITIALLY, AS AN ACCOUNTANT, I DID MY TAXES BY HAND... THE LONG WAY... ONCE I STARTED WITH THIS PRODUCT YEARS AGO I VOWED I WOULD NEVER PREPARE MY TAXES DIFFERENTLY. I AM VERY SATSIFIED WITH THIS PRODUCT AND WILL CONTINUE TO USE FOR THE FORSEABLE FUTURE. THANK YOU SO MUCH
What's great about it: VERY COMPREHENSIVE. WALKED ME THROUGH EVERYTHING
What's not so great: NO CONS AT ALL VERY SATSIFIED
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
I had multiple Capital Gains Distributions from Mutual Funds on 1099-DIV forms. These get entered in Interest and Dividends section, and this total number goes on Schedule-D. There is no summary of this entry that goes on 1040 line-13. I do not see how the IRA will know the breakdown of this entry. Turbo Tax Deluxe should provide a breakdown of where 1040 line-13 entry comes from.
What's great about it: The Tool does alot of work for you.
What's not so great: Need Breakdown of 1040 line-13 and Schdl-D line-13
questions re minimal distribution were vague and/or inappropriate. At one point I was asked what the minimal distribution would have been. However, there was no assistance in calculating this. It was simply the final distribution divided by the number in the IRS chart (e.g., 27.4 for a person who was 70 years old. This could have been part of the program. Also it was not at all clear why this question was asked. Your insistance on a nickname for this review that is not used by another is more than annoying.
What's not so great: questions re minimal distribution
i have been using Turbo Tax every year since it was introduced and I have been very happy with the software each year. It continues to be improved every year and I never worry about my returns once I have filed them. I will continue to use this product as long as you continue to make it available! THANK YOU Intuit!!!!!
What's great about it: carry over of previous year info, and the many "help" spots
What's not so great: took a little bit of time to figure out how to print the return this year, by showing user questions and an answer.
Surprised to get mid-way though to be told "the form needed for this deduction isn't finished yet by the government...we expect it by 12/30/2013"- prompting me to think - 'didn't this do the update after installing as it has in the past?' I was multitasking while installing TT and didn't pay close attention during the install process, but don't recall being asked to update before beginning. So I saved my work up to that point, updated TT and resumed my return - though it did walk me through most of what I had already done - with apparent differences in the order it was collecting the tax information. Also, in the final e-file process I received "certificate security warnings" requiring 2 updates. All seems good in the end, as was the case in years past. Fingers crossed.
What's great about it: Fast and easy as usual
What's not so great: It didn't do an auto-update before beginning - or ask
Tax preparation is a breeze with TurboTax. State is automatically completed corresponding to Federal input. Can't think of any way it could be made more easy.
What's great about it: Questions guide you quickly thru forms
