My long time tax preparer retired a few years ago, I've done my own since then. I wish he was still around, I am certain he did a better and more thorough job.
What's great about it: step by step
What's not so great: very confusing at times, obtuse questions

I absolutely love using TurboTax every year to maximize my refund. It makes it easy to understand each section of the tax return, and asks the right questions so I don't miss any incomes, deductions, or credits.
However, this year I had a less pleasant experience. I accidentally left a space blank when putting in my W2, and TurboTax never corrected me. Several times, the program informed me that is had double-checked my returns and they were complete and accurate. When I got to my state returns, it said that I owed a large amount of taxes to my state, despite having paid all of my taxes. None of TurboTax's error checking methods found the skipped space, and I had to dig through my return to find it myself.
As it turned out, I had failed to fill in Box 16, State wages, tips, etc. Considering that I reported to TurboTax that I lived in the same state for all of 2013 and only received wages in that state in 2013, its fancy error checkers could have figured out that it makes no sense for that box to be empty. If I'd trusted TurboTax's report of a 100% complete and accurate return, then I would have ended up writing a $1,081 check to my state government for taxes that I'd already paid.
Still, better than having to do the calculations myself!
What's great about it: I love how TurboTax makes it so easy to calculate my taxes!
What's not so great: I failed to fill in important information, and TurboTax never corrected me.

Does not transfer Long Term Care info needed for state return from last year's Turbo Tax return. That would be a helpful feature.
What's great about it: Easy to follow step by step instruction with good explanation links
What's not so great: See Review Comments.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I've used TurboTax for decades, and continue to find it easy to use and this year it found a huge deduction that I had no idea was available. Hurrah!
What's great about it: Like the option to self direct or go through interview.
What's not so great: Did not transfer info from 2009, 2010, and 2011 Turbotax records.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbotax error caused several days extra work

There is an unsolvable error in both step by step and forms input of the payer address and Fed reference No for payers outside of US. It is impossible to avoid inputting a reference No. (which does not exist). This results in unsolvable errors at the final stages of preparing return for efiling of federal return and mail filing of state return.. Had to hand correct the mail filing return.
What's great about it: Accurate handling of US financial and tax information
What's not so great: Errors in handling of 1099R input for payers outside US
