Have used TurboTax for several years. This will be my last. Last year it would not print my return for filing at all. This year, after several unsuccessful attempts, it printed, but in an unreadable language (or code). Further attempts produced no results again. The document file copy saved is fine, but attempts to print from my document file only kicked me to the same TT screen which would not print. Wasted tons of time. Electronic filing seemed to be successful.
What's great about it: The entering and calculating process went OK
What's not so great: Could not negotiate the PRINT process. Printed copy unreadable
I decided to try and do my taxes on my own. I had been taking them to a professional service. I wasn't happy with the refunds I was getting and the cost they were charging. My taxes were not difficult and since I had the time to look for paperwork and expenses I was able to find some nice deduction and get some money back this year. It also has inspired me to track my expenses better and use the Mint.com app regularly. I hope next year will be even better.
What's great about it: I get the time to look for more deductions and receipts
What's not so great: Access to an adviser is not easily available
After the review and error checking it identified problems and ended up changing the filing status. I didn't notice the $2000 shift and had to go to the IRS to fix it. I know there is a visual que but it should have recognized the significant financial deviation and questioned the change after review. I've used the program for many years
What's great about it: it asked so many questions I expect it got everything
What's not so great: it didn't flow as well as before and changed entries unexpectantly
It took me less than an hour to file my taxes. TurboTax walks you through every step, which makes the arduous task of tax preparation super easy. I highly recommend this product.
I felt that my returns were a little on the difficult side with all the variables that even some preparers may have trouble with. The program was a gift that I was reluctant to use till I started the interview process. The thought of if you are smart enough to sit across the desk and answer the questions while someone else prepared the return the you are smart enough to use this program.
What's great about it: the program is very educational
What's not so great: would like to be able to look forward as the interview is taking place
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
