Many Issues

I like the product and have used it for many years. The CD I purchased this year was bad and kept telling me the 1040A was not available yet. I finally spent almost 2 hours on the phone with a helpful representative and ended up downloading a new program to use. I also could not get on ItsDeductible after initially going on. I have used this for many years but had to enter everything manually this year.
What's great about it: The ease of use
What's not so great: Bad CD and could not get on ItsDeductible

My father was a CPA. He faithfully used TurboTax Professional for years and continually recommended it to family and friends. I've used TurboTax Deluxe for at least 7-8 years and have never been disappointed. Even if you believe your tax situation to be "unique," TurboTax will help you navigate through your return with ease!
What's great about it: Easy to use. Walks you through every step, leaving no stone unturned!
What's not so great: For newbies, some of the sections may take a little more time to complete as you become familiar with your tax situation

Difficulties with TurboTax
on March 3, 2014

I've used TurboTax for many years. Every year IRS sends me a recalculation of my taxes along with a bill for several thousahd dollars. The problem is that TurboTax (and many IRS staff) are unaware of Section 107 of the Code. Clergy housing allowance is not subject to income tax (with certain limitiations). When I enter the full amount of my pension (housing allowance) on line 16a and the taxable amount on 16b I have to override the Turbo-tax calculation and this results in an annual IRS recalculation!
This year I'll write an explanatory letter and enclose it with my return filed by mail. Next year I hope TurboTax fixes the problem.
What's great about it: Easy to enter most things on the computer.
What's not so great: No way to produce an explanantion or to add a document and e-file

Almost Impossible to Compare MFJ with MFS
on March 3, 2014

It's almost Impossible to compare Married Filing Jointly with Married Filing Separately using TT. I've done this every year, and it's extremely difficult. You have to start over from scratch and reenter all data. There really should be a way to attribute each item to one spouse or the other and do a semi-automatic comparison of one status to the other. Even if a couple doesn't actually file separately, they may want to know how much of their joint tax is attributable to each party.
On another note, TT always fails to correctly identify income from U.S. government securities on my state return. The question isn't even asked, and it can be a very important item.
What's great about it: Straightforward for simple returns.
What's not so great: Almost Impossible to Compare MFJ with MFS.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I have been using TurboTax for several years. It was more difficult this time because my old computer broke and I had to prepare all of the information from the beginning this time. It is easier when data is transferred to the new filing.
