I was skeptical a couple of years ago when me and my wife starting filing through Turbo Tax, but she convinced me to do so, and I'm glad she did. It's such a painless, easy way to file your taxes, getting always more money that my brother, who still gets charged an arm and a leg for using someone else's services. Also, this year we had difficulties filing info on out HSA, Turbo Tax was a very big step-by-step help.
What's great about it: Easy, very well explained, always gets me a great refund.
I didn't realize how much time and effort I had saved until I printed out the 17 pages that took only about an hour to complete. I wouldn't have even known that I was eligible for some deductions or where to find certain forms. I had multiple jobs and taxable income that, without TurboTax, would have missed reporting.
Also, I was extremely satisfied with my return and the filing process. I will definitely be using next year!
What's great about it: The ease and speed. No need to worry about adding or subtracting box 6c with 7b while dividing by the inverse sum
What's not so great: The IRS' descriptions were sometimes easier to figure out (especially for determining student status)
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
Great product. Walks you through the process, step by step. Comprehensive, makes recommendations. E-filing is quick and easy. Highly recommend to anyone who has a home, mortgage, property taxes, medical expenses, donations and multiple incomes. Will use it again next year.
What's great about it: Walks you through the complete return, start to finish. Good tutorials throughout, FAQ's, suggestions.
What's not so great: Challenge initially to load the CD to my Mac. Better explanation to drag the icon across the screen would help.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
While filing for the CA state return, at some point a schedule F form was accidentally amended. I tried deleting the form to no avail. Checking the online forums, the advise was sparse other than to delete the form or start over. Neither of which seemed to get very far since I could not find the wanted "clear your 2013 form" button in tools. I finally gave up and started over. Very frustrating to an otherwise flawless experience.
This would not be so bad except:
Total time prepare returns: 20 min Total time troubleshooting the CA state schedule F amendment: 2 hours
Not so hot. Otherwise it would have been a trouble free submission.
What's great about it: good interface and importing abilities
What's not so great: Zombie forms and forum support/FAQ was incomplete
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved
Fifth straight year using Turbo Tax. Intuitive menus. Thorough in preparation and easy to use. Does make you consider all the options which is helpful in getting the most out of your tax preparation effort. Automatic update was nice when I logged in - kept me current. Able to use for another family member as well which saves some money, thank you. Good planning tools if you want to use them. Printed version as well as PDF back up is a nice feature - electronic history of tax returns now on back up drive. Another excellent product.
What's great about it: Same easy to use format, transfer feature saved lots of time
What's not so great: Not many to think of - forms seemed to lag in updates but probably government issue
