Is this the same hamster you had last year? Our return is simple and quick to complete. If someone can't do their taxes with your program they are in trouble with everything in life. Those working on these programs should feel good that they are helping people in the confines of their homes and not at some mall. Good! I have more than 50 words!!
Truthfully, I've been using TurboTax since 2005 and every subsequent year I've been pleased to see even small improvements in usability and features. The interface has become clearer and where "Help" falls short, the user community comes to the rescue with advice and instruction. Props to them. This year Nonresident and Part-resident handling helped really simplify my daughter's tax return. It's a fine line I walk between wanting to correctly do all my taxes, while also expecting to receive ALL the tax breaks that Federal and State (ALL those I need) laws allow me. Turbo thus far has always helped me remain confident in the accuracy and appropriateness of ALL my returns. Thanks for the peace of mind.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved
Overall it's the best thing going for small business owners and people who have Side-jobs that are closer to hobbies than jobs, but money exchanges hands… so you've got to claim it!
Form 4835 to provide expenses for farm rental could not be completed in the step by step process, but had to be completed in form mode. Help feature was not helpful, as it did not line up well with the CD TT Deluxe version
I have used Turbotax for many years and rely on the product to provide accurate tax information and calculations. This year, however, my tax product was deficient in a number of ways, delaying my filing by a month and making me wonder if I am getting my full refund. My usual high expectations were shaken this year, but in the end, Turbotax fixed the bugs (at least the ones I found) and the process caused me to be more careful about reviewing my forms before I submitted. I still prefer using Turbotax, but I hope they will provide a better product next year.
I have noticed that TurboTax sometimes asks for a hand entry into a specific form because it indicates that the data was missing when using the Step by step method - which I use every year even though I have been using TurboTax forever (even when it was MacinTax). This a bit frustrating and even mysterious because it is usually data that was already inputted during the data entry process (or is on previous year return which was accessed in the beginning of the process as a guide for current year) and when it does this it shows you a partial form and a highlighted box but there is no explanation as to why it was "missed" and what the form is all about. Since my returns at this point in life are relatively simple it seems to me that TurboTax should 1. Not miss transferring data from previous entries or previous return, and 2. If it's going to highlight a open box for missing info., jump to the full page view of the form and have a brief explanation cartoon style bubble indicating what is missing and where user would likely find that information. i.e., continue the "guided" information requests and explanation vs. just dumping the user to an incomplete form and a highlighted box. Also, when e-filing, the program highly recommends making a Review Print before e-filing (which we did ) and then also STRINGLY pushes the user to print a Filing Copy after e-file process which is just a waste of paper and ink. TurboTax doesn't seem to allow for the fact that a review copy was already printed (shouldn't it ask user if it did the Review printing?) which included all the forms, explanations and directions for e-filing Also, I receive pre-printed quarterly filing forms for Federal and State (IN) and by sheer chance I got into the Forms mode and found the box that prevented TurboTax from printing all the quarterly coupons which had happened in all previous filings and were a waste.. I think TurboTax should ask the User to indicate whether or not they want the Quarterly filing coupons printed - and why they may not want them. e.g., "Did you received pre-printed Federal Quarterly Deposit Coupons?" and ask the same question for State (or states).
