Painful Process
on October 15, 2014

The state return glitched, I went out of the state return to look at something else, and then I COULD NOT get back. It kept wanting me to buy it, saying I have it, but I couldn't proceed forward. Extremely frustrating.
ALSO, I had the download version. I completed my federal taxes, went to class, and then came back to do my state taxes. But all the work on my federal taxes was gone. I had to re-enter everything. It would not accept information from the PDF I had saved of what was done before. Annoying.
What's great about it: Step-by-step is nice, and how they calculate tax refunds
What's not so great: Having to repeat steps a lot!! Not being able to go back

Confusion on the RMD portion on the pension plans, especially if you received a monthly check.

Was not advised I could not file electronically until after purchasing State Return application. Recommend pertinent questions are asked before making purchase.

Initial Uploading Process
on February 1, 2014

Purchased TurboTax Basic Disk and inserted it into my up and running computer since there were NO directions on the box or the disk box cover like in the past. Nothing happened, so I went to the Turbotax File and clicked on the "exe" file and it uploaded. I then did my taxes and at the end it would not update the 4 new fines (one at the end was the federal tax forms), so I had to upload the disk again and still nothing came up on my computer screen, so I went to and clicked on the "exe" file and this time, it allowed me to upload the new files at the end and e-file my taxes.
Please put some uploading directions on the disk box or the disk box cardboard cover. ----- Thank you. ---- Guy

really sucks

I have spent the last friggin hour trying to make sure that the refund goes to my bank. I even change the work sheet but the program removed the check box and replaced the routing no. with XXXXX's The help within the program could not tell me where to turn on or enter the routing #'s as they are in the back ground and no where does your great program states that the refund is going to my bank. I will not efile unless it does specifiy that I have direct deposit. It must be an oversight that really makes me not to ever trust trubo tax again
What's great about it: good until ready to efile
What's not so great: direct deposit not identifed on 1040 - did not file

Still Good

I have a fairly simple return: investments, retirement and SS income, moderate deductions. Using step-by-step was quick, moving forward or back was easy, and overall experience was painless - almost too easy.
What's great about it: Almost too easy; no problems; will use (BASIC) again.
What's not so great: A little expensive, even for BASIC.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
