Really love Sodastream and I used my sisters and my best friends all the time. I decided to order one for myself this christmas and something is definitely wrong with it. I'll be trying to send it back.

A Soda Lover's Dream!!!!

This system is AMAZING!!! So easy to use... and so much healthier than regular soda!! No sodium, so there's NO more swelling of my ankles, only 8g of sugar and 35 calories per serving on average... I am diabetic and I can drink this stuff all day!! We love mixing flavors, too... and being able to adjust and customize how much carbonation we want for each bottle is wonderful. All the MANY flavors we've tried so far taste just about 99% EXACTLY like the actual flavors of the 'real' soda!! I don't know how I ever lived without this!!!

I bought this about two months ago and have used it several times. It works fine and I predict it will last my family a long time. One downside (or annoyance) I've had with this product is screwing the bottle into place. To do this the front "button" or lever must be pressed down with one hand and the bottle screwed in with the other hand. I have found it somewhat difficult to screw in the bottle with only one hand.
I can imagine an easy fix to the product if the "button" would somehow click/lock in place when pressed down, which would free up both hands to screw the bottle in place. To release the lock a side button could be installed to lower/unhitch the lock mechanism. Not sure if I wrote that clearly enough for everyone to understand, sorry!
But other than that hitch the product is very useful and environmentally friendly- no more buying bottles of carbonated water! 4 stars

Quality flaws make this inferior to Genesis

I had a Genesis for a couple years then decided to leave it at a family cottage and try a new model--one that might look a little better. After reading the decidedly mixed reviews that:
A) were fairly polar in terms of love it/hate it, and
B) did not improve with price
I decided on the Fountain Jet.
The Fountain Jet never worked as well as the Genesis.
The Fountain Jet seems to take twice the pumps to fill a water bottle, which make the compressed air seem to last half as long. It seems to be leaking air under pressure.
The button on the Fountain Jet makes it seem like a cheap imitation. You have to cram it down into the hole to make it work. The button on the Genesis, while large, has a nice feel while pumping air into the bottle.
The Fountain Jet never seemed actually broken. It just performed poorly in taking many more pumps to fill a bottle.
Eight months later and we decided to chuck the Fountain Jet and go back to the Genesis.
Having used two models and seeing the variability in reviews, either:
A) there is large variability in manufacturing quality, making it hit or miss whether you get a good one or a bad one, or
B) the difference is due to design quality differences.
Although neither one is all that visually appealing, the functional performance of the Genesis I had clearly surpassed that of the Fountain Jet.
When my new Genesis comes I'll find out if I made a good choice or not.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Loved it, until a design flaw struck, twice

I purchased my Sodastream in October 2013. By April I was contacting Sodastream for a warranty return as the button/lever you push to add the CO2 to the water had cracked, making it fall off the machine, and the machine would no longer work. Return and Customer Service were great.
Fast Forward to September and the new machine has developed a crack along the lever that makes it unusable. This is not the exact same crack, but it has the exact same consequence. Customer Service has been contacted, Not sure what the result will be.
We drink CO2 water, not soda, and I make plenty of CO2 water daily, say 6 to 8 liters, but still, you would expect this thing to last longer than 6 months.
So, if you think you want it to last for more than 1400 liters, not a good choice. If that seems like years of soda making for your family, then it would be worth the purchase.

I just bought my soda stream after waiting a while and doing the math. I am so happy I decided to purchase this! I really enjoy plain water with a little lemon or lime and some red chile powder. My husband is the soda drinker and really likes the root beer and cola! I'm glad to reduce the bottles and cans. I feel better about this product as I try to keep a green house!

Not nearly as good as the Genesis

I am a huge Sodastream fan so when I decided to get a second unit I wanted to try a different model so I ordered the Fountain Jet. I regretted it from Day 1 and actually tried to return it but I had to pay for the shipping and I had already broken down the box, so decided to stick with it. Bottom line - it's awkward to use and the instructions are misleading. While there is nothing complicated about spritzing a bottle of water, the instructions imply 3 short bursts of air until you hear the noise. I have to press & hold the button for up to 5-8 seconds PER BURST in order to get the buzzing noise. My concern is that I will go through the air cartridges so much faster this way but the customer rep assured me that wasn't true. Also, the Fountain Jet just feels poorly made. The Genesis is far superior and I would buy that one again in a heartbeat. I strongly recommend avoiding the Fountain Jet.

Wish I Had This A Long Time Ago

Saw this at my son's home in Texas. Tried it for the first time with selected flavors he thought were the best. My daughter-in-law, being a doctor, told me that it would eliminate all the sodium intake I've been drinking with brand name diet sodas over a long number of years. Being diabetic with heart problems, this product is much healthier than regular sodas on the market today. The drinks that I make are hardly noticeable in difference to the brand sodas. The only thing I don't like are the citrus flavors. They are off the mark with taste and could use some improvement. In all said, it's a home run with sodastream. I'll be curious to see how they make this product better in time.
