Sturdy reliable printer
on June 27, 2014

I have tried many different makes of printer in the past for my small office use. I returned them until I found that brother was a sturdy reliable printer with ink that does not need replacing that often. This particular model can print back to back which also saves paper. The feed for copying which allows you to copy multiple items quickly meets my needs. In the past my only difficulty with brother has been the paper tray breaking as I often changed paper colour so pulled it in and out a lot. This model has two trays is I should be ok!

Scan=A, Print=A, Photo=D, Mac=F

Scanning:
Double Side is FAST & GREAT, however it does poor on Yellow paper.
Needs a better delivery guard & Deeper Out Paper area.
Printing:
Printing is great, HOWEVER.. HOWEVER
MacBook Pro will not print Double Sided Legal Paper.
<Brother Tech people actually told me their printers did not print 2 sided Legal... so they was no help>
My Windows will, but not Mac.
Paper Trey - Paper retrieval needs work
PHOTO: .... UG UG UG UG
Rear Paper Feed Needs UPDATING BAD.
If CANON can allow 20 Thick Photo cards why can't Brother ?
All my prior Printers ( HP & CANON )
you can put 5 pics on the glass plate and they Scan & Save Each Pic to their own file... but not This Brother Printer.
It also has issues in " Fit To Page " with Elongated photos. like 8x4 to 6x4.
And sometimes it'll make streak lines on each Swipe of the print head.
Printing :
FAST FAST FAST
Networking:
I wish it could set itself up as the Network Printer so any file sent could just start PRINTING..
SOFTWARE Pack :
Needs HELP.. They need to add photo editing and a better Mac / PC interface
--- Regarding all of the above.. I think Brother needs to buy a CANON printer and copy some of it's features.

Not best choice

Had a Brother printer a few years back. It was a good product. Recently I gave up on another multifunction machine. I considered several brands and chose the Brother MFC-J6920DW.
This was not a good choice. Incredible number of paper jams and really, really slow print speed. I was REALLY surprised and disappointed.

Good for Office - Not Good for Presentations
on March 29, 2016

I reduced my architectural practice to just myself and moved to a new home studio. I had several older copiers, scanners, and printers that cost thousands of dollars when new but now are just obsolete technology. My new MFC-J6920DW is relatively inexpensive and mostly does the job for me in my new practice. I keep my work product output to 11X17 with no problem and use the scanner to import hard copy into my digital work space. The weakness of the unit is that full color output is weak or somewhat dull so if I have a significant client presentation, I outsource the printing. Also the scanner isn't that good. The image presents in rows and is OK for internal work but if I need to send to someone else, I outsource the scanning as well. If this was an expensive unit I'd send it back. Price makes it acceptable - Brother Good Enough.

Good for office work

The good:
Least expensive way to print tabloid prints.
Plenty of convenience features.
The bad:
Can't really print deep blacks on plain paper, therefore all photos graphics look faded. It is similar to color newsprint.
If money is tight, this is a good printer to help visualize large layouts or drawings, but it is not good enough for final work.
Its paper handling features are handy for the home office but you'll need a finishing printer for artwork.

Nice printer but....

Brother have decided to put a code chip in their ink cartridges to prevent from using NONE Brother ink. This was one of the reason I purchased a Brother machine so I could keep my business cost down. There is nothing really different in features or print quality from the competition. Brother is no longer stands out.

Constant "printer out of ink" messages
on October 19, 2015

I have found this Brother printer reliably prints out multiple page tasks and has never messed up on two sided jobs which my previous printer always messed up on.
However I have found it maddening that this printer starts warning it will be out of ink while there is still 25% left. AND it keeps wasting my time telling me that again and again, forcing me to click away the pop-up messages before I can print the next page. AND it stops printing completely before the cartridge is empty.
How can I stop this infernal nonsense.?!
Leave it up to me to decide when the print quality deteriorates because the cartridge runs out and it is time to replace.
