Don't use cardstock

We just purchased two of these printers at work. If you're printing low volume on paper then this is a great printer. It doesn't use tons of ink, and cartridges aren't outrageous. The scanner works quite well, and the print quality is plenty for standard everyday print jobs. The duplex printing works great, too.
It does have some weaknesses, though. First off is cardstock. Neither of the printers we purchased work well with even light cardstock. My colleague and I have lost much time trying to print some simple business cards on standard Avery blanks. It simply doesn't feed them. Once we get them to feed the print quality is acceptable, but by then we've lost a couple of hours at least simply trying to print 50 cards. I'm to the point where it's cheaper just to order them from vista print.
Next weakness, if you're trying to print a high volume (more than about 5 pages or so) try to break it up if you can. Sometimes it feeds 10 pages fine, other times it'll grab multiple sheets and you end up with half your document on one sheet and half on the next.
It also has a problem feeding really light paper through the scanner (like old typing paper), so you have to scan those by hand. Also, if you try to run to many sheets through the automatic feeder for the scanner it'll end up misfeeding one and it'll get jammed. If you keep it to <10 sheets at a time it does fine.
Summary, if you're only feeding paper through it then it works great. If you're trying to make your own business cards or something similar, you may want to look elsewhere.

When printing photos you have to put the photo paper in 10 times before it will start to print. It grabs the paper and sends it through. You have to act fact to put another in because it will grab the normal paper and print on that. You put the photo paper in and it grabs it and you think its going to print and then it pushes it all the way through. You have to do this OVER and OVER and OVER and then all of a sudden it starts to print so you are happy. That is only for a short time because once you see the photo its not square on the paper, sometimes not even CLOSE! When trying to print a 4 X 6 photo it NEVER prints on the paper evenly its ALWAYS off set and the guides on the side do NOTHING to help. SO it can't print photos, maybe it will print the contracts we need. Well it can NOT grab just ONE sheet of the carbonless paper it always grabs more. I have called and they offered NO help to fix the photo problem or the carbonless paper problem. I wish I would have known the problems sooner I would have sent it back. My fault for thinking it would do what the description said it would. The one thing it does OK is you can use the document feeder to scan legal sized documents.

great printer. love it. easy setup, especially the wireless printing. choice of cartridges and print capacity makes it very economical. not to mention being able to print A4 size. love this printer!

I love the scan format which is larger than legal. I love the fact that you can also print large format 11x17. It also does not use up a lot of ink when printing. The ink is reasonably priced which makes for economical printing. I would strongly recommend it.

Broken 1 month out of warranty

The paper jams up under the print head. No other constrictions. Changed paper. Opened and closed too many times to count. Reset. No luck. The double sided printing also never worked. Most expensive cartridges, all new, now wasted. VERY DISAPPOINTED since I've bought exclusively Brother printers for the last 10 years or more. Never any trouble. Guess they wanted to cut costs, so now it's a much cheaper product for them to make, but in the long run it's going to cost them because I'll never buy another. If I want something to break in a year of extremely light use, I'll buy a HP. At least they're cheap.

Awesome printer...needed it to print 11 x 17 size for blueprint drawings. It will also handle legal and letter size as well. Fast, good quality, reasonable ink price and yield per cartridge. BEST printer for the money....valuable asset....you can't go wrong with this printer. NOTE: I do not usually write such good reviews but this printer earned it.
