We have always purchased HP's. We were guaranteed this product was just as good, however, we can't get it to print photos nor can I get it to not have a fax sound on my phone after 4 rings. Coping quality is poor as well as speed of printing.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

75% of the time it mis-prints... otherwise good

Half the pages printed are misaligned ... print a 10 page document, you NEVER EVER just get a clean 10page document, what u do get is a good page, then 3 pages with half the text spread across 3 (ruined) pages, then maybe another close to perfect, then 3 more wasted pages, etc., etc. ((ALL brands of paper, all thicknesses, fanned out, in the tray perfectly)) So annoying, wastes half your paper & ink on mis-prints. LOTS of scratch paper for the kids though!!!

Printer issues

I have always enjoyed Brother products and am a loyal user. This particular printer however has a couple of issues.
1) every now and then the printer needs a reboot. When I shut off the printer, it will NOT restart. I must go through the process of unplugging the machine, holding down the power button and plugging in the machine while still holding down the power button for 30 seconds. This is a very annoying situation.
2) My previous Brother printers always held envelopes in a certain way - face down, flap to the left. For some reason, this printer makes you insert the envelopes face down, flap to the right. Not a huge deal, but strange. The more irritating issue is it leaves a 1" indent on the return address section. I've adjusted every setting regarding this with no resolution.

Wi Fi not consistent, needs to be reset regularly. Cartridges not long lasting but easy to replace.

I've had good results. Do not loose or misplace the disk as you'll need it each time you update. Down loads do not work as well.

You need new setup software

The printer is excellent for office uses. However the setup programme is outdated and extremely difficult to set up the network printer. As of this day the printer is still not totally connected to my office network.

We had this model previously and decided to replace it with the same model. Good features! Scans well. Control panel is easy to navigate. Took several test prints and head cleanings to achieve best quality. Document feeder works well - both 2-sided and single sided. Head alignment was right on.
