Big Footprint - Duplexing :-) Paper Feed Jams :-(

I have used this product for about 3 months -- printing, copying, scanning & faxing.
Best features: DUPLEXING in each function -- print, copy, scan & fax. Works ell, seldom jams paper OUTPUT and prints on both sides of a page saving loads of paper, espectally if you're in the drafting stage.
Worst features: 1. Blank paper feed INPUT simply will not work if stacked in a portrait position -- I switched to landscape orientation when loading the paper tray, and the paper feed worked just fine. 2. If the unit jams, it makes you go through each step of opening every door before it will reset the unit to print. No other printer that I've ever used requires this annoying routine. 3. Rear envelope feeder for single use, yields crooked print, and often will not feed unless you stand over the unit and give the envelope a nudge into the unit. If you print many envelopes, this could be a deal-breaker for you.
I really wanted the duplexing feature, so I am willing to work with this unit and tolerate the small annoyances. However, I also own a Brother MFC-J5520DW (smaller, no duplexing but is otherwise similar in many respects to this model), and the rear envelope feed of that machine feeds envelopes flawlessly -- go figure?

Great for the price

Little slow on wireless when I first set it up. Went to direct connect and after playing with some of the settings it worked great. Chances are that if I went back to wireless with current setting it would be better but I don't need to for what I'm using it for. Over all this is a good printer and I'm very happy with it. The only thing I haven't done yet is faxing and may not. For the price I love it.

Easy to connect to wifi. Have it connected to 3 computers. Prints quickly. Pages dry quickly. No jams yet. Scans are crystal clear. Used many of the functions and they are all very easy to find and use in the menus. Pretty quiet as well. Built solid. If you know where to get the ink at the best price it is also an amazing value. Sometimes as low as $4 per black or color ink cartridge. This is (so far) the best printer I've ever owned and used. I just love it!
I would recommend this to a friend!

pretty functional machine

This machine replaced a stand alone office copier/network printer. We are pleased with the scan/fax/print capability. One of the main reasons this machine was purchased was for the 11x17 paper option. That does work, but the feeder tray is at the rear of the machine, which makes it awkward to access to just make one copy for 11x17. It also makes it difficult to feed the one 11x17 page.
This machine is very good for s small office, such as ours.

Excellent!

After many years using Canon products, I decided to purchase a Brother product and from day one it has been excellent! From setting it up to use my cell to print, all as advertise and more!!
I will encourage anyone to buy this printer/scanner. Yes they are heavy for this is NOT a portable device.
The quality and speed of printing are a lot better than Canon.
I am very happy that I purchased this item!

Makes odd noises, but appears to work fine. I certainly like the 11x17 features of scanning and 2 sided. Very cool. It's not a small machine, and thus, where I have it sitting it is inconvenient to use the by pass paper feed which is at the back of the machine. Otherwise, I'd say it's excellent, and reasonably priced. I am not a heavy user. I certainly hope that it stands up to moderate use for a long time.

No Luck with this One

Got one print job out of this printer before it died. I think it linked to my network once to do one print job. Turned it off to reboot it and it won't turn back on. I want my money back.
