Great sound, disappointing energy saving feature

I hope that by adding my disappointment with the energy saving feature as others have posed perhaps Polk will own up to the the error of their ways and implement a firmware fix for this. The sound is fantastic, however it is incredibly annoying that it turns itself off after only 15 minutes and then cannot be turned back on except by physically walking to the machine and firmly holding down the power button for two seconds, then it thinks for about 5 seconds, and then it finally turns on. I have used the remote to turn it on but that is even more frustrating. You have to hold the power button on the remote for like 5 seconds, release, then wait, and wait and wait and wait and eventually it turns on.
I know Polk is proud of their "Energy Star" rating, but frankly as a consumer I couldn't care less. I don't care about the fact I'm saving 5 watts per year by having this thing power off when there is a slight pause in music playing. I just want it to work simply and easily. Even if it could just go into a standby mode and turn on when it "sensed" a signal coming to it that would be fine.
I think the best hope is for a firmware fix that allows the user to set the Energy Saver timeout period from 15 minutes to say infinite so it won't turn off unless we want it off OR get it to turn on when it senses incoming music, that would be even better, but I fear that would be a hardware fix and all of us current owners would be left out in the cold on that one.
Polk, please fix this.

Love this speaker! Tons of ways to connect and great, full sound with deep bass. It also replaced my soundbar for my 55" tv and I love the sound.

Amazing sound

After weeks of researching for a wireless speaker that supports both Airplay and Bluetooth, I decided to go with the Polk Woodbourne and I made the right choice. Its not battery operated and it's on the expensive side, but its worth every penny. No buyer's remorse guaranteed. The sound quality is outstanding and the design is classic. Anyone that has seen and listened to this speaker at my house agrees. It was very easy to configure and user friendly. Its the perfect wireless speaker. I highly recommend Polk audio products and this speaker will not disappoint.

HORRIBLE CONNECTIVITY NO STANDBY POWER great sound

I give this a 4 star rating for sound and for multi-functional attempt at connectivity, but that fact that it won't wake on Airplay like my other systems do is so frustrating. It doesn't make sense. If I am playing music by the pool, I have to literally walk upstairs to deck and turn it on for Airplay or any mode because it turns itself off after 15 minutes or so due to the Energy Star. (there is an old school physical remote included, but I surely don't carry that around. The App does nothing. It does not control the Woodbourne. It spins and spins acting as if it is trying to update, but nothing happens. It does not say that my current firmware is up to date, it just spins. I called customer service and they said, "we agree, the App Designer did not do a good job". So the Polk sound is excellent, but the wifi functionality is so bad I have stopped using Woodbourne after two weeks. Please fix this. I feel like I am at my grandmother's house in the late 70's and we had to get up to change the channel.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Simply The Best!

I've had my Woodbourne for a little over a month now, and I couldn't be happier. My background in iPod docks, USB speakers, etc., includes TDK 3 speaker boombox, harmon kardon Go + Play I, Bose Soundock 10, a variety of Boston Acoustic radio/players, and several more that I won't mention in this review. I always thought the sound of the harmon kardon Go+ Play was unbeatable in a small form factor, but when I connected my Polk Woodbourne and played my iTunes and PC files, I was blown away. The totally natural bass and sweet mid-range and highs are just incredible.I can listen to any music at a much higher and to my delight, a much lower volume than ever before with crystal clarity. I think so highly of this small multi-talented speaker that I plan on selling all of my other gadgets, including my Bose 901 series VI speakers and Onkyo receiver. I'm convinced I need nothing more than the Woodbourne. Everything on this peaker works as advertised, and the AirPlay functionality is
fantastic. I connected my six disc CD player via optical cable and it just makes listening to CD's a pleasure again. In closing, I want to say I am not a plant for Polk Audio. That being said, this speaker has no peer for it's size in the audio world. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Polk Audio Gets It Right

I've held off purchasing Airplay speakers mainly because of connectivity issues with some of the products available and others just seemed outrageously overpriced. Being a happy owner of other Polk products, and based on positive reviews; I decided to give this unit a try. I couldn't be more satisfied. It's an attractive design, connecting to my home network was simple, and it works flawlessly playing music from iTunes on both my MacBook Pro and iPhone. As others have stated, you won't get great stereo separation from such a small enclosure, but the sound quality is truly amazing. The included remote works very well for me.

Good sound, should wake on Airplay or BT,

Love the sound and the style. However, the fact that I must actually go and turn the unit on to play remotely from iTunes or iPhone is a total bummer. I have other Airplay devices that sit patiently waiting for me to activate when the mode strikes, all I have to do is select them from Airplay and within a 30 seconds or so they are pumping out music. The fact that I have to go to the room and turn on the device manually causes me to remove a star. Polk please figure out a firmware update that allows this unit to wake from Airplay.

I personally find the energy saving method of turning itself off very annoying. You won't be able to play your music spontaneously in your house without going there to turn it on first. Such a pity, the styling and quality fit great in my home. However, it is not convenient.
