Love my new microwave!

We had to replace our old GE microwave, after twelve years. We replaced it with a new GE. We love the features, and of course the great quality of our new one. And the new one is beautiful. In a word, we love it!
I would recommend this to a friend!

The one I have now for 7 years too, just failed. the vent mechanism broke within a couple of months, could never replace the light bulb for the stove and the keypad just broke rendering it useless. If I didnt already have the Profile series for my kitchen I would be purchasing another brand. Too bad GE, your not bringing good things to my life these days. Very expensive too!!

looks beautiful, large cavity with lots of cooking power. Just complex to use. has no number key pad. This unit is a bit pricey for not being a convection microwave.

Nice Microwave, but it is way too BIG

I bought this microwave to replace the old GE microwave we had that lasted very long (installed it in 1997, so almost 18 years). The height of the cabinet was important and thankfully GE didn't change that on this much newer model.
The problem however is the depth of the microwave is 15.5" and our cabinets are 12" deep. The old microwave was about 12.5" deep. Now it looks like we have a monolith coming out of our kitchen cabinets and it does not look good at all. Actually it's embarrassing to put my coffee cup in this HUGE microwave (which is about 60% of what I use it for).
Note however no one makes a "slim" depth microwave anymore. They are all huge - many of them much bigger than this one! So this is what I am stuck with.
Beyond this, the microwave is very quiet and the exhaust fan is about 10% as loud as our old on on the highest setting - which is great. I particularly like the very low settings which still exhaust, but make merely a slight hum of noise. Bravo GE on this part of the product.
Consumer Reports rates this the best over-the-range microwave made. I have to agree with them. I just wish they wouldn't have made it so BIG.

Great Cooking, Overcomplicated Controls

This microwave performs great. The sensor cooking function seems to cook very accurately, the vent fan works well, and it looks great. However, I have to take two stars off what would be a five star product for the horribly clumsy controls. The rotary knob that replaces the numeric keypad looks great, but makes simple tasks like setting the time a mess of navigating through poorly thought-out, overly complicated menus. Simply setting the time, or using the "Popcorn" preset requires three or more steps. Additionally, time can only be set in 15 Second intervals. Once you learn a few shortcuts like using the "Add 30 Second" button and then adjusting the time with the knob, it gets less frustrating. It has also been trouble-free for nearly a year now.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Large interior

This appliance came pre-installed in our new construction home. The knob that controls cook time is archaic and cumbersome. A simple heating of food requires way too many button pushes. Not a user-friendly unit at all!!
