This microwave lasted 2 years. We have a countertop that is 20 years old that we are now using because the GE microwave did not last.

Broke after light use

The microwave just stopped heating. We use it very lightly. Called a company and they said Magnetron and Diode needs to be replaced, without even opening the Microwave. It seems it is a normal for GE microwave. They quoted a lot of $ for replacing it which includes parts and labor. Already spent money for their visit.
Now we are stuck with replacing it with a new GE Microwave because this is built in with a trim kit. So again a new GE microwave with a new Trim kit, so that is fits existing cabinet. :( And I am sure the new one will break in 3-4 years?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

6 years and old died under normal use

Microwave case failure just after 6th birthday of ownership. now to find a replacement to fit the surround since this model is no longer made. pretty disappointing reliability and lack of options to replace.

Out of no where the microwave started arching heavily. Fortunately we caught it prior to catching fire. Extremely dangerous! When I purchased this product I had no idea of the danger I was bringing into my home.
DO NOT BUY!

Heating element dead - no equivalent replacement

I have been a loyal GE customer going back 15 years. Everything in my house is from GE - appliance, oven, range, washer dryer, refrigerator etc. However, this microwave has been an utter disappointment. This went out in a couple of years. It appears that the heating element is gone.
The amazing thing is that GE didn't plan appropriately for an alternative. So I can't find an appropriate replacement for my built in (this sits on top of my two ovens). The only alternative is PEB7227ANDD but that is grey in color. Not to mention that I also have to get a new stainless steel trim for it.
Very very disappointing from a company that used to be the standard for appliances.

My microwave started arching and then melted the panel inside ! Talk about a fire hazard. This seems to be a reoccurring theme with this model.

I would not buy this model microwave. There is a metal plate on the inside after seven years of having it it arcs and catches fire almost burning down the house
