Handsome appliance

Replaced our 13 year old GE spacemaker. (PEM Model #). Love the looks. Inside is smaller though. Smaller plate. Don’t like how the door opens as much. And can’t see as much from the outside looking in. Would be nice if clock brightness was adjustable. It’s a little too bright. Would also be nice if less expensive!

Controls except the clock are TOO dim

Our model is PEM31DF2BB - not listed on this site. Can barely read the controls. The clock numbers, on the other hand, are so bright, they could probably wake the dead. This appliance might be easier to use as a night light.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Like the unit. Wish it matched the previous

We replaced our 11 year old Profile discontinued series PEM31SMSS with this Profile series PEM31SFSS. The features and operation are fine. The unit is relatively quiet and has a feature the old did not, notification when you attempt to start the microwave with an empty oven. However, the new unit was not compatible with the prior unit's trim kit, the text on the control panel are harder to read, the clock numbers are bright white unlike the night vision preserving and preferred green shown on-line and on all of our other GE Profile series appliances, and the Profile series badging on the prior unit and all our other appliances has been replaced with a relatively cheap-looking medalian. Makes the appliance look like the odd one out.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Had to replace our 25 year old GE Profile Microwave, but because our old one with matching white stacked ovens no longer made in white we went with this one and we’re glad it matches and works well.

Not much for the money

Low power. Use not practical in cabinet below countertop as any pressure on the open door causes the unit to tip dangerously forward spilling contents.

Verdict is still out

I was quite upset that our first GE Profile Microwave failed us in less than 8 years. Unfortunately, this series works best with the limited space we have to under-mount our kitchen cabinet. Considering the $$$, I would have expected these models to last at least 10-12 yrs. (we don’t use it that often). The new model is definitely louder than its predecessor. It makes a rather loud clicking sound the entire time it’s running/the turntable is in motion from the undercarriage. Which is rather annoying and discouraging. The door is also very loud/jarring when it’s opened and closed. There is no way to avoid it. Which seems like a manufacturing flaw that will lead to easy wear and tear.
All that being said, my verdict is still out. I’m hopeful it will surprise me and stand the test of time... we will see.

Stripped down version of an earlier model

I purchased the PEM31 SpaceSaver counter top microwave to replace my older JEM31 model. JEM31 had served its useful life of 16 years, and had problems with the closed door circuit. The new PEM31 was the only model (and manufacturer) that would fit into the built in cabinet space. It’s basically the same but fewer features. For example, the clock doesn’t set an AM/PM indicator; the timer signal doesn’t sound continuously; no controls for display or sound; no delay start or reminder options. So this is just a stripped down version of an earlier model. I guess the improvement I see is a better door latching mechanism, so the circuit doesn’t fail.
I would recommend this to a friend!
