Could be better.

I purchased model pem31df2bb space maker profile microwave to replace an old GE profile space maker microwave. The salesperson told me that the hanging kit hasn’t changed in years & that I probably didn’t need a new one . The installation would have been much easier if I would have got a new kit . The holes on the new microwave did not line up with the holes on my old hanging kit .
I’m not pleased with the loud harsh metallic sound when opening /closing the microwave door . Seriously you can hear the door being opened or closed several rooms away.
Would I buy this model again ? Yes . Only because of the specific dimensions of the space where the microwave mounts under the cabinet.
I have no complaints regarding the function for reheating food .

LOVE Express Cook & power level features

Spoiler Alert - long review!
Purchased PEM31SFSS to replace a similar 2009 (1200W) model that died suddenly. Overall I’m happy with the purchase but notice differences between models - some good & some annoying.
First the positives.
It fits my space - critical since it sits on an open shelf in a cabinet with depth constraints.
Love GE’s Express Cook and add 30 seconds features, plus easy power level adjustment.
Visiting family really liked it too, and when they needed a new countertop microwave bought a GE!
Touch pad layout changes make sense, especially placement of 30 seconds, pause, and start.
Makes popcorn just fine using Nordic Ware microwave corn popper with no oil and time no longer than my 2009 model.
Next the negatives - or - engineers please make it better and easier to use.
Time and touchpad displays. Time display is cool white and very bright - especially annoying late in the evening. Touchpad display has smaller numbers and is lower contrast than 2009 model. Please consider a more night friendly time display color/intensity and slightly larger/higher contrast touchpad display.
Touchpad action. Must be pressed very firmly and in just the right spot for results.
Door latch. Must also be pressed very firmly and right in the center.
Turntable rotation. My 2009 microwave turntable rotation seemed to be in synch with half or full minute cook times. Container handles were usually in about the same relative position when the cook time ended as when it started. The 2020 unit is always a surprise and I often must reposition the container/handle to safely remove it from the microwave. Although some things could be different/better, I hope this lasts at least as long as the first one, maybe longer!

Great size for countertop

I love this model. I had the 2008 model and just replaced it. Cooks great. My only complaint is that the display is harder to read than the older versions. Letters & numbers need to be whiter/brighter or illuminated.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Unit was easy to install and looks very sleek & nice. Operating it is very easy and it is so much quieter than the last model. Seems to heat evenly with the turntable and power levels are perfect.

Fits in our 12" standard kitchen cabinets

We didn't know for sure if we could get this unit to fit. One thing to know is that the frame actually adds about an inch and a quarter past your cabinet facing. We were having our old cabinets refaced, so that added another 1/4". We did have to push the electric outlet back into the drywall behind the cabinet. It was a tight fit, but it did work and gave us our "built in" look that we wanted. We haven't had a chance to put the microwave to a lot of usage, but so far we like it very much.

The microwave is gorgeous! It is not very deep, making it the perfect size to fit in our kitchenette in the garage. Love it.
