Perfect sized, sleek, and modern looking microwave

An amazing microwave, size is perfect especially hung under the cabinets. It's very sleek, clean, and modern looking. The door takes some extra effort to open and is slightly "clunky" but it wouldn't prevent me from buying it again. It also vents very well to prevent moisture buildup and it's easy to wipe clean.

Space-saving microwave

I replaced my previous 13 year old GE Spacemaker II because the enamel coating on the bottom was peeling, and I chose the same model to replace it. The clock is bigger and easier to read on the new model but the buttons and lettering are smaller. The timer only sounds one alarm which is fine when you're nearby in the kitchen cooking. I wish there were a choice to make the alarm sound continuous or one sound. Other than that, the microwave suits my needs for heat ups and smaller meals.

I think the buttons are harder to press down than my previous GE Profile microwave. I like the spacious inside a lot. I also like the brightness factor of the lit buttons including clock.

I love my new GE Microwave Oven. I replaced a larger GE model with this smaller unit. However, it was very difficult to find, as GE has discontinued most "SLATE" colored models. I wish that they would reconsider this decision.

Fit the under cabinet mount needed

Replaced an older GE under the cabinet mount with this unit. Width was identical, depth slightly more but not a problem. I was able to use the same mounting kit, although had to drill two new holes in the metal mounting brackets. Pleased with the look, size and it cooks faster than the previous unit. However, after 3 months, as I write this, the unit has developed an intermittent rubbing/friction type noise from the turntable. I plan to return and exchange the unit for another as it is still under warranty.

Holding My Breath On Quality Outcome

2/5 stars for a number of reasons. This is a replacement unit of the same model we installed in our newly built house 3.5 years ago which just died. Come on, GE! Is that all the better your quality is now days? Hoping we have better luck with this one but not holding my breath. So until I'm proven wrong, slightly below average rating.
Also I'm learning the hard way that "innovative" space-saving units or cool new colors that companies tout as nice to have probably aren't around for the long haul so I should stay with tried and true sizes and finishes. When you design cabinetry around a unit like this and GE (or any other company) finds out the acceptance rate and sales aren't that great for the color, the size or both, they discontinue the model which is what happened. This particular model was discontinued about 1.5 yrs ago and we were lucky to find a unit sitting around a warehouse from amongst 8 retailers I checked with. I could have gone with all stainless, black or white but that wouldn't match the rest of the appliances.
Not doing that with a new house. I shouldn't have to expect appliances to break down within 3 years of installation.
As they say, they don't make them like they used to! Also, now I'm stuck with this size and hoping it lasts for years to come or if the other GE appliances start to break down and we need to replace them because we'll have to then change appliance colors. Even at that, I'll still probably have to do some "light remodeling" in my kitchen so a different sized built in unit will fit or close the opening if we were to get a counter top unit.
