Not New and Improved

We purchased this microwave as a replacement for discontinued GE Model PEM31DMWW which failed after seven years. We were very happy with the previous model and hoped for the same with this one. Under-cabinet bolt pattern is different from the old model, will require new template and more holes drilled in cabinet. Door latch on new model very stiff, latch button and "soft touch" buttons on control panel take considerable pressure to activate. Closing the door sounds like striking the side of an empty oil drum. Unit makes bumping, grinding noises when running - don't know if these are normal or if they indicate future problems. Nice feature on old model was kitchen timer which worked independently of cooking timer; its alarm beeped continuously until silenced by user and was audible throughout the house. We relied on it daily to remember coffee perking on stove, etc. while doing other household chores. New model has same timer function but its alarm is a wimpy one-second beep - can't hear it unless standing by and waiting for it - it serves no useful purpose.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

cooks ok, disappointing construction & features

Two HUGE issues with this microwave. When the timer goes off, it only beeps one time. So it might as well not have a timer because if you are not standing in the same room to hear it go off, you will not know when the timer is up. Not very smart... (our old microwave, same brand, beeped until you turned it off.)
Also, there appears to be a panel or piece of the inside of the microwave that is CARDBOARD! At first I thought this was a temporary piece for packing purposes, but upon closer inspection it appears to be a panel covering a hole in the side of the microwave. We have only had the microwave for a few months and as things spatter inside and I go to wipe up the spatter, I can't see how this piece of cardboard construction is going to hold up over time. I don't understand why you would use cardboard inside a microwave for actual structural purposes. Ridiculous GE!

Had been without a microwave for 4 years and finally purchased this under the cabinet unit. It fits very nice and looks great. My favorite feature is the plate reheat. The feature reheats a meal on a plate evenly.

Small size, BIG performance

Very happy with the microwave. We have a built in shelf and it is the only model that will fit the smaller footprint. But it can do everything that a bigger, deeper and higher, model can do. It is the only model on the market with this size footprint.
