Sparks and lots of smoke

Sparking and smoking. Repair man said there is nothing he can do, as that the cabinet is damaged from arcing with the magnetron. Display now doesn't work properly either and is unsafe to attempt further use. Likely the same issue as others have mentioned. I'm surprised this is not a recall.

Replacemet Stainless Unit

Purchased a home last April that had this microwave in it the kitchen. This morning my wife was using it and heard a "big pop" and the unit no longer works. The light has been flickering for a couple weeks and figured the bulb was going out, but it seems there was a larger issue. I have noticed that in a recent review GE answered with a replacement unit, but is there a replacement Stainless unit? The one they listed is only black, grey, or white. GE please advise on a Stainless replacement unit.

I have the same burnout issue on this model. I see several people here with the same issue. It only lasted eight years. I have had other cheaper microwaves for much longer. I now have to replace a custom installation.

We know the importance of an appliance operating for a long time. However, it is not possible to determine the product failure rate, lifespan, life expectancy, or life cycle of an appliance. There are multiple variables involved such as frequency of use, type of use, location of appliance, care, and maintenance.

Fire hazard

I see others have had the same issue. Yesterday mine started sparking and burnt the cover up as well.

Safety Hazard

Seems we have the same problem as multiple other owners. Microwave began surging and sparking and is now deemed irreparable. If this is a known issue by GE, you should have issued a recall rather than allowing consumers to continue to use the defective product which could potentially cause a home fire. Very disappointing and won't be purchasing GE appliances again.

Stopped working/brown burn marks on inside

Microwave just stopped working. On the inside, I see the brown marks others are reporting. With this research to see what is wrong, also discovered there is no replacement that works with the trim kit. That's a little frustrating. Trim kits are as exspensive as a new microwave. Is this product going to be recalled for known defects? Is there any replacement option that doesn't require full replacement of trim kit?

We are more than happy to provide guidance with this microwave. This unit is not currently on a recall. However, this feedback has been sent to our product team for review. Our trim kits are model specific, so they cannot be used with a microwave that it is not compatible with. If any additional assistance is needed, we're more than happy to help.

Safety hazard!!!

This microwave sparked and stopped working. This is a safety hazard and should have been recalled. Shocking to see how many reported the same issue and yet GE has not recalled this product. I am looking for replacement and doesn’t look like there is anything that’s compatible with the existing trim kit. I am hesitant to buy another GE microwave given the issues with current one though.

Sparks are Flying

We are having the same issue that other people with sparks flying from the small panel on the right side. We are scared to use it at this point
