Fire Hazard
on July 29, 2023
Posted by: andminer89
This model started arcing for NO reason. It had been running for about 5 seconds and started with large, bright sparks. There was only a microwave safe dish with some chocolate chips inside at the time. Thankfully I was standing right there and hit cancel immediately, but in just that short amount of time there were scorch marks on the side. I have tried to add a photo, but it's not working on my phone. I have scheduled a maintenance appointment on this site for this coming week, but after reading how many people have had the same issue with this model I am afraid to have it repaired only to cause problems again in the future. I no longer trust it and I think a new microwave would be the safest option. I am so frustrated that we may need to buy a new microwave due to what seems to be a manufacturers defect (probably why they no longer make this model), and I am angry that my family could have been put in danger. STAY AWAY.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Fire Hazard
on September 4, 2023
Posted by: Camaro Guy
Worked fine until 30 days ago. It tripped our cursuit breaker and we noticed a burning odor. Removed the microwave from the cabinet and took the cover off. Noticed wring had melted at 2 connectors on a thermo switch of some kind. After reading of others doing the same and some catching fire, GE should definitely recall these unsafe models before someone looses their home and family. We purchased all our appliances new in May of 2017 when we moved into our new home. This appliance hasn't seen much use and we are disappointed with both this and our GE Dishwasher which has failed as well.

Bought our house a couple of year ago with GE appliances. I will definitely think twice before going with GE in the future. The microwave spontaneous started arcing behind the wave guard and when I removed it the unit had started to char.

Burst Into Flames!
on September 13, 2023

Electrical Fires: As other consumers have reported on safety, this model GE profile microwave during normal use emitted a loud bang like a gunshot as it burst into flames at the right interior plate and burned the inside black. Terrifying. This model is allegedly no longer being manufactured. Hope that’s true!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
