We remodeled our kitchen in '06-07 and the appliances included a GE Profile mid size microwave for cabinet mount installation. Unfortunately it died after 10 years - perhaps this is the longevity of currently manufactured appliances? Anyway, replacement options for cabinet installation were
extremely limited so I bought the latest model of the old unit. EXTREMELY unfortunately, due to my dead unit being 10 years old I ALSO had to purchase the NEWER TRIM KIT (the old trim would not fit the new unit, esp. in terms of the base pan, and I much prefer the appearance of the older kit).
The unit functions fine, and seems to have more power than the old one. Control pad layout and door opening mechanism are a bit different but are easy enough to adjust to, given we've been programmed to the old unit for ten years. It functions very well and is used multiple times daily. I have no complaints but only questions.... I have some kitchen appliances (e.g.- a two-station milkshake mixer inherited from my grandmother, likely manufactured in the late '40's) that still work just fine. Yet major appliances like refrigerators, microwaves, clothes washing machines, etc., take a dump within 10 years of service. I'm always happy with how my appliances function when new. I'll be even happier when they're functioning as new 10 years into service.

The microwave unit is attractive and dependable. It heats up, cooking the food or liquid very effectively and evenly. It doesn't require re-heating the food over and over again until you get the desired temperature.

Compact, basic, reliable

We purchased this GE Profile Series PEM31SFSS microwave to replace a similar model. The unit fits a shallow shelf so it doesn't consume precious space on the kitchen counter. Its basic operations and reliability make it useful for reheating leftovers and preparing frozen foods.

Best microwave ever

We bought a home in 2014 and the prior owners left their countertop GE Profile Series microwave for us. I loved that microwave, it was 8 years old, and it stopped heating 2 weeks ago. I bought another GE Profile Series microwave just like it, and I found that there has to be something setting on the glass tray for the microwave to work. That's an improvement, because I now don't accidentally start the microwave when I've forgotten to put something in it to defrost or heat.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Replaced a previous GE microwave of 18 yrs, needed the same size to fit over the apartment size stove in our beach house.

Not as nice as my old one

This replaced a 10 yr model like it same size. Seems much cheaper, plastic & all. Button to open door I don't like. Have to push hard & all the way in to open door. At first I thought how quite, but 3rd use, got very loud. So the quite didn't last long. Tried popcorn in the bag. It took forever it seemed to start popping. Then finally did then did seem like it wouldn't cut off. It did cut off finally & gave me error message & burnt popcorn. Burnt our sweet potato. Nothing close to its predecessor. I always try to figure why when they have a good thing going they go cheap & lousy.
Also the first one I got was dented in the side. The box was not damaged but the microwave was dented. Took it back & ordered another one.
