I didn't think 800 watts would be that different in performance compared to other wattage microwaves - but it is.

Too expensive!

I bought this unit to replace a similar one that I purchased in 2001. Although my older unit was working, a check with a microwave leakage device indicated a leak around the latch side of the door. A second test using my cell phone also indicated a leak. The newer unit was purchased in stainless steel vs the white finish of my older unit.
The first issue that I have is with the cheaper sound and feel of the door as it is being opened and closed.
The second issue is with the lack of responsiveness of the touch pad control panel.
The third issue that I have is with the depression in the center of the top of the outside of the unit.
My final observation is that the unit takes longer to boil water, thus longer to cook items.

Same size as old one (almost)

We bought this to replace worn out GE microwave of very similar size, mounted under cabinet. This is the third GE microwave in this location in over 25 years, so we're happy with previous performance of these products. However, all three units have different mounting, so now we have three sets of mounting holes (12 total) drilled through shelf unit mounts under. Too bad engineering department couldn't have passed on same mounting layout configuration over the years. This unit also has fewer features (i.e. sensor cooking), but has a hefty price. Looking forward to long lasting appliance.

I'm so sorry I bought it!
I ordered it over the phone since I loved my old one. Doesn't always rotate properly. Noisy! Everything sizzles even at lower temperature levels and has to be covered! A real pain! Much bigger than my old one! Makes noise when going! They only had black and you can barely see what the buttons say. I thought it was the same number as my old one but was I wrong!! Just awful! I paid too much as well! My biggest mistake of the year! I hate it!!!!!

Have owned this microwave for over a year (have two of them, actually). So far, so good. No complaints. Looks very nice with the trim kit. Great value for the price.

Great Workhorse of a Microwave

I am a professional kitchen designer. I have used the PEM31 microwave for years in clients' homes as well as my own. It is a very good piece of equipment that is cost-effective and functions well yet is sleek enough in appearance to coordinate well with high-end appliances and sized such that it doesn't draw attention to itself in a kitchen design. Love it!
