A little higher priced. Screen protection got thrown out as it was your typical plastic screen protector that protects the screen from smudges....case is thin compared to the bulky defender. Would have been nice if there was a compartment to carry a credit card and id.........
Pros: Durable
Cons: still thick screen protection is nothing big, no credit card holder
The OtterBox Commuter case is well designed and fits my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 flawlessly front, sides, and back. There are quality smooth and grip materials, which means it easily slides in/out of pockets yet it doesn’t slide out of your hand…unless you’re like me and very clumsy. I dropped the phone from shoulder level onto hardwood, the phone fell glass face down, landed flat, and it’s just fine. Phew!
I did not use the screen protector that comes with the case because I already had one installed before I purchased the case; however, it looks to be on par with OtterBox quality.
The case is designed in Colorado and made in China. Here are areas where one might decide against buying an OtterBox Commuter case:
1. You want more protection and decide on the OtterBox Defender. 2. The case is heavy, noticeably heavy, compared to other cases. It is also thicker. This is why we buy an OtterBox, but if you’re a new user like me, it takes some getting used to. 3. It may prevent you from using a dock or your phablet stand may no longer fit. The case does come off easily in two pieces, so this may be a non-issue (applies to changing the battery, too). 4. The case protrudes a few millimeters off the screen, which can make the home button and screen edges a little more difficult to press/reach. 5. There are rubber flaps for the charge and headphone ports, which you may or may not like.
I used my phone for a few weeks before getting the case. A phone without a case is nice, but it sure is nice to relax knowing the phone is protected -- especially when you have a phone like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
You can never be too sure that you won't drop your phone or bump it into something that's why you should protect it with a commuter, get a defender if you're accident prone. I do have a small problem with the protection around the home button. The usual sized thumb will be forced to press with the corner rather than flat surface causing you to tap what ever is on the screen, I think trimming off a little wouldn't hurt that way the button is easily accessible.
Plain and simple, this is the case to buy if you have a Samsung Note 3! You've already spent so much on the phone, why not protect your investment. I felt that the defender was too large for me and my pockets, and I personally prefer that the hard plastic to be on the outside.
Great protection! Has a good grip, the case is slender and the screen protector that comes with it was easy to put on. I am very pleased with the Otter Box! Highly recommend!
I've always respected Otterbox's products. My new Defender Case makes me respect them even more. There was only one minor thing though. It is a little difficult to remove the stylus on my Galaxy Note 3. I have to press down on the corner of the screen above the stylus, then it comes right out. Other than that small item, I am completely satisfied with my Case.
My fingers at not that wide but I still have a challenge when hitting the return arrow key. I think the case would benefit if the rubber seal was tapered thinner near that button.
