Disappointing

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have had our new dishwasher for about 6 months. It is quiet and the stainless is shiny, but it does a terrible job at cleaning dishes and leaves bad spots. The soap compartment is very small and there is only one we can't even make up the difference there.
Our old machine may have been a noisy antique but at least the dishes came out clean.
Also there are too many prongs in all the trays. It is hard to get many items to place well because the pins are all so close together.
We usually end up washing our dishes by hand and can't afford to replace such an expensive item.
Clean is better than quiet.

Great Dishwasher

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the second Bosch dishwasher we have owned and I will always purchase this brand. It is basically silent when washing and I love the simplicity of how it works. The racks fit all of my dishes with room to spare. Very happy with this purchase!

NO NOT BUY IF YOU WANT QUIET

There is an extremely loud beeping noise at the end of the cycle that does not stop until you open the door. There is no way to turn this 'feature' off according to Bosch, which is absolutely absurd. It's LOUD, and only one volume.
The washer is fine otherwise but you can't run the dishwasher and go to sleep and the loudness of the alarm totally negates the quiet of the machine.
So dissapointed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got this machine about 2 weeks ago and installed it myself. Instruction sheet was clear except the spec for the water intake elbow, which I had to provide. They were elsewhere and not found until after I solved it on my own. Lucky my old-school hardware guy said "Oh, you want a dishwasher elbow." Now I know.
Dishwasher runs very quiet and the dishes came out very clean, much better than my old machine. Pretty thrifty on the amount of detergent needed. The rack layout seemed a little fussy, with the instructions showing 4 different recommended layouts. There was even a chart on how to arrange the individual pieces of silverware in the repositionable silver trays. Very German!
All controls and indicators are hidden, there is no way to tell when the cycle is done except when it beeps. There is no timer or countdown to when the cycle will end, probably due to the fact that cycle length is controlled by the internal dirt sensors.

Nothing but problems

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have this dishwasher at a river home that I use on the weekends and I therefore don't use it much but I have had issues with it since its installation. First, the latch wouldn't latch and so the unit would start and the door would pop open slightly and the cycle wouldn't finish. A Bosch serviceman adjusted the latch and it worked until just after he left and then it wouldn't latch again. He came back after 3 weeks as he had to order a need latch assembly from Bosch, as well as a "stiffener panel part" that Bosch designed to help with this latching issue. Now it is latching fine but the unit will never finish a cycle. It gets part of the way through "any" cycle and it stops running and there is water in the bottom of the unit and it never finishes. I tried all these cycles several times and they never finished. The literature says in troubleshooting that it may sense that the water isn't hot enough so I made sure to run the water first to get it hot before the machine starts but this did not help. I bought Bosch because I have been happy with other Bosch products that I have purchased but this SHE3AR56UC must be a lemon. They should replace it, it's only 4 months old.

Works well but feels a bit cheap

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought it to replace an old, very noisy dishwasher. This one is MUCH quieter and seems to do a really good job a cleaning the dishes. Having had experience with other Bosch dishwashers in the past, this model feels a bit cheap. The entire chassis is molded plastic (although it does have a stainless steel lining), the door seems very flexible and the hinges/springs are a bit stiff. Like most newer dishwashers, you're supposed to open it up after the cycle finishes so it can dry, but the way the hinges are designed, you have to open this one by almost 45 degrees, anything less and it just springs shut. If you have a kitchen that is tight on space, this might be an issue. Strangely, somehow you are supposed to pre-set the leveling foot in the back before you install the dishwasher... I'm not sure how you can determine how to adjust it before putting it into the cabinet... The rear leveling foot is accessible underneath after it is installed so you can adjust it that way, however there is a locking screw you're supposed to screw into it once you have it adjusted and that is only accessible from the rear so you would have to pull the dishwasher back out to insert that screw. On the plus side it cleans well, is relatively quiet, and considering the price, it's a very good value.
