Just purchase this set 2 days ago and have been playing with the pic settings.
Sony as usual, is a head of the times, this set will be good for years to come.
Excellent controls, easy to use remote, plus a lot of bells and whistles.
The pic is excellent, depending on the signal you are getting.
The only cons for this set is that tv station, cable companies, tech standards are behind the times.
This set is years beyond today standards, the better the signal the better this set gets.
There is only one set to buy and that's sony

Great television by Sony. I would give it ten stars if it had it. Just remember to dive into the settings. This will greatly improve the image on the television. That is why some people give it bad reviews. Just keep working on it.

This replaced an older 46" Sony HD TV so I was already used to a very good picture but this one just blows me away! Very fine print is clear and easy to read and I have not yet even seen it with 4K programming. My old set was a 46" and this one is a 49" but looks smaller because of the very narrow bezel, which I love. It's great having apps for YouTube and Netflix built right in. It synced right up with my Sony HT-CT370 sound bar and my Sony Blu-Ray Player.
If you noticed that my other electronics are also Sony, it isn't by accident. I won't buy anything but Sony electronics because they are simply the best and I have owned a lot of electronics over the years.

Android OS cool, Contrast not cool

The Android is kind of neat, takes a little bit to find and go through all the settings but seems to work well.
As others have stated in their reviews the contrast ratio is sub-par. I have been a Sony fan for 20 years and I have to say this is the first product I have owned from Sony that does not live up to the Sony name. The contrast ratio is so poor that my 2010 40EX500 looks better than it.
I will be returning this television and try another Sony in the future at some point.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

No technology is perfect right? Right. I am a long-time audiophile and in more recent years a videophile, yet not officially until about a week ago (videophile that is). I have a 2000 32" SONY XBR Trinitron standard definition and have used for 15 1/2 years. I recently picked up this 4K 830C and am thoroughly impressed. I truly changed from being Fred Flintstone to George Jetson. This is an opinion from a very picky consumer. So I went from a square/flat 32" XBR to this almost 50" 4K XBR. You talk about night and day - I waited forever to go HD and now I have one of the nicest sets out there. No joke. Sony's expertise truly shows. Installed the latest update for the TV and it has impressed me to no end. HD is not perfect, and I refer to the varying degrees of HD on your typical consumer cable and directv - I personally highly recommend directv - it has a better picture without question. When it comes to getting maximum bang for the buck, this TV has truly impressed me. Is it OLED which costs several several times what this set costs? No. But does this TV make you smile and be completely satisfied in performance and picture quality? YES. Picking up the latest Sony blu-ray this weekend, the whopping $129 BDP-S6500, another hit by Sony - out of the park. Do I recommend this NEW 4K piece of awesomeness? HIGHLY! GET ONE AND START SMILING!!!
