High expectations

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely love Kēvo and it functions, completely separates itself from any other smart door lock. I have to address some major issues I have with this 2nd gen. 1) the lack of Apples HomeKit compatibility is a major disappointment 2) you can't name key fobs for viewing of lock history 3) has not adopted "works with XFINITY" home security app 4) it should use some other type geofencing instead of Bluetooth only, Bluetooth seems to seriously drain the phone battery. 5) Kēvo plus should have been built into this 2nd gen and not a add on.
I had high expectations and expected way more from this 2nd gen. Still impressed, I have it installed on my vacation condo and fits all my essential needs; remotely send ekeys, remotely lock/unlock, and view current status (with my added purchase of Kēvo plus of $80) I'm holding out on installing for my home front, side, and back door until it becomes Apple HomeKit compatible, I don't want to fumble with 10 different apps I'd like everything to work seamlessly with HomeKit and Siri.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Cool idea but just not ready

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Cool idea but still needs work. Fob keys are not always working and the iOS app hasn't been working well with me since ios9 and I've had nothing but headaches. The trick is kinda the same process as taking out your keys. I just open the Kēvo app and I walk up to the door and finally I was able to get it to unlock. Leaving the phone/fob key in you pocket has been a big headache and it doesn't always work for me. Installation is really easy and the end results make you feel like you have an awesome looking house especially when people ask how you opened the door without keys. It's a cool idea it's just not ready yet and needs improvements.

Never carry a metal key again
on February 3, 2017

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I take my phone with me everywhere. It's got my badge for work in the case. My key fob for the car lives in my purse and opens the car door and starts the car at the push of a button. My last metal key was my house, but it's been over 3 years since I carried a metal key because of our Kevo. It is AWESOME.
Better than that, we went to cut a Christmas tree this year and getting down the mountain took longer than planned, so we had guests arriving. They rang our doorbell and we said, "Sorry we're running late! Here, we just unlocked the door. Come on in." Life altering awesomeness. We've also had friends come over and take care of cats where we didn't have to hide a key or arrange a handoff as we prep for vacation. We just send an eKey and it's handled. Other friends have permanent eKeys and have run by to grab some oranges from the back yard or pick up an accidentally left behind computer or book. Also, when we've been scrambling to leave the house, we've often driven away, then checked the app to make sure we actually locked the door. Usually yes, but sometimes we can do it right then. I wouldn't want to go back to my metal key lifestyle, stashing spares and having folks poke around to find them in emergencies. The Kevo is fantastic.

Second Generation Better Than First
on February 18, 2017

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I paid a locksmith to install 2 of the First Generation Kevo Kwikset locks in 2014 and liked them but did not love them. Reasons why? They were incredibly slow to lock and unlock with our iPhones in our pocket and even after several software updates where Kevo tried to fix it, it got incrementally better but never perfect. They were a bit on the bulky side and the plastic casing felt cheap. Finally, the key fob experience was abysmal and we gave up on using them for our guests and just gave them physically keys. Enough reasons to where I was not going to buy the Kevo Plus gateway when it came out because I did not know if I wanted to invest more money into it.
When the Second Generation Kevo Kwikset locks were announced I paid very close attention to them and noticed a much smaller footprint, better security and better lock and unlock with iPhone. I was able to get my hands on a Second Generation Kevo Kwikset and decided this time around to try out installing it myself. I was able to get the Second Generation Kevo Kwikset installed in a couple of hours (because I'm Type A and wanted everything to look perfect with the great instructions in-app from Kevo. While installing the lock, overall I felt the Second Generation lock felt better constructed, from the cable connection and components inside of the lock and the smaller housing (footprint). The only thing that is an inconvenience is that there are three screws required to gain access to the batteries and program button to upgrade code or pair key fobs or iPhones, however, I understand this (among other things) were required for the lock to get its upgraded security rating.
Once installed, with a quick paring, software update and re-keying to our existing keys, I was up and running. I noticed immediately that the lock/unlock process was far better with iPhone AND the key fobs worked! I immediately went out and bought another Second Generation Kevo Kwikset and immediately replaced our remaining First Generation Lock.
After that, I also purchased the Kevo Plus gateway which made this experience even better and I highly recommend you get one with your Second Generation Kevo Kwikset. The only thing I did not like about the Kevo Plus purchasing experience, was purchasing it. It took 10 days from the date of order for me to get notification that the order was received and shipped. The only unofficial way I knew they at least got my order was that my credit card was charged. Either way, I am a huge fan of the Second Generation locks and Kevo Plus gateway.

Great Lock - Great For Caregivers and Guests!!
on March 8, 2017

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have had our lock for about half a year now and the only issue we ever had was with Android apps which has been repaired now and the fact you have to use normal quality alkaline batteries in it, not cheap ones or lithium. Has to be normal alkaline Energizer or Duracell or it wont function properly - Has worked like a charm doing this.
We have the Kevo plus allowing for checking up on the lock remotely when we want to make sure the lock is locked while we are away and see when caregivers come and go making sure their clock in times are accurate (more accurate than they would normally be).
So with that information we use this on a daily basis many times per day. Caregivers come and go all day running errands or taking my fiance places. My fiance can unlock it from anywhere in the house using her phone (knowing someone she is expecting is at the door by them texting her that they are here). She can see if it is locked or unlocked at home or away and it adds for more security and safety for her. Since she has caregivers she can send and revoke virtual e-Keys at any time giving them access at certain times or any time and that allows for more security knowing once the e-Keys are revoked no other copies are running around. This adds for a safer and more secure environment after terminating caregivers or after they move on.
After having this Kevo - I will never use another lock as long as I live if I can help it - the ability to lock and unlock from anywhere, send and revoke e-Keys at any time from anywhere, and the ability to unlock it with a phone and not having to use a key every time makes this a priceless investment. We had a hard time affording it, but the outcome has become something to celebrate over as it has helped over and over and prevented us from having to change locks multiple times over the last few months with caregivers coming and going probably making this investment free in just a short amount of time not having to do that alone.

Kevo is NOT Reliable
on November 28, 2017

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had a Kevo 1st Gen for approximately 3 years. The Kevo does not reliably open. On two occasions, I had to call a locksmith to open my house. $$$$ Once when my daughter arrived home from school while I was at work and Kevo would not open the door. At least once every couple of months the Kevo fails to open until the key is inserted. Now we carry the key to make sure we can get in. OK for occasional use but do not rely solely on it!!!
