DO NOT BUY Kwikset Kevo 2nd Generation

I have two of these units and they rarely work as advertised. The touch to open feature is extremely unreliable. I operate them via the app and with the $25 Fobs (that should be included with original purchase) and both methods work about 50% of the time. The fact that you need to keep the app open in iOS in order to use the touch to open feature is incredibly frustrating. Find myself at the door fishing out my phone to open the app to open the door which takes longer than getting out a set of keys. Bought the fobs to fix this issue but they rarely work with touch to open on the first try. Usually get the spinning blue light and then try again. End up waiting longer than would with normal keys. I've reset the locks multiple times and paired again with fobs and phones. Doesn't fix. I've updated firmware and apps with promised "improvements," same issues persist. Extremely disappointed with this product and could not recommend to anyone.

Touch three times to open

I hope the recent app update, which I just installed, improves the lock's functioning. More often than not, I have to touch the rose three times for the lock to open, even with my iPhone in my hand. Sometimes, when I use the app to unlock the door, it takes 10 seconds or more to connect. Occasionally, after entering my house, I lock the door manually and then the lock opens by itself.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had high hopes for this product, it makes a ton of sense in theory.
But it doesn't work. You tap it, it waits, searches, then.... nothing. I re-calibrate, it works a bit better for a bit, then it forgets. I reload the app, same deal. It also enjoys locking behind you when you don't mean to lock it. I suspect it's some nefarious game that it enjoys playing, silently laughing to itself.
In any case, the whole point is to be able to open up the door when your hands are full, and it doesn't do that regularly. I'd say it works about 70% of the time, and that's just not good enough.

I Wish I Had Not Purchased 5 Kevo Locks

Locks do not integrate with SmartThings - and Samsung has stated they do not have current plans to activate the Bluetooth capability of the ST hub.
90% of the time I cannot lock or unlock a door while carrying my iPhone 7 Plus - even with the Kevo app open and unlocked. I can - usually - manually lock/unlock the locks from the app (either bluetooth or through the Kevo Plus), but occasionally that will fail as well.
The latest update may have improved one problem. We keep our keys (and fobs) on a rack in our laundry room - just inside the garage door and we were constantly brushing the lock and causing it to lock and then bang on the door jam as the door closed.
The BLE is problematic - sometimes the hub cannot communicate with all the doors (large house). Moving the hub would require relocating our incoming Internet connection - not an option.
I have over 100 zWave devices in my house (connected to SmartThings) and if I had purchased zWave locks, or if Kevo used zWave instead of BLE I would have no issues reaching the hub from the locks.
I thought having "smart" locks that only required smartphone proximity and a touch to lock/unlock as well as eventually having ST integration would be great. But since neither of those is likely to change - I wish I had bought a different solution.

Terrible product doesn't work properly

This is the worst product I have purchased, it quite often doesn't connect to my phone to lock or unlock, very often have to close the app and reopen for it to work. When it does work it's very slow to respond to lock or unlock. Don't waste your time or money on this lock

I bought this lock with much enthusiasm because with three children of our own and several cousins constantly coming and going trying to keep track of keys was a giant pain. The initial month or so was great but then I added the gateway so I could remotely operate the lock. Well, that was a giant bust. At first it didn't work at all but after some tinkering from Kwikset it started working, sometimes. On more than one occasion the gateway confirmed the lock was open only to get a call that it wasn't. I had hoped that with future updates it would get better but I was wrong, it only got worse. When I updated my iPhone to iOS 6 Kevo stopped working in the background so we had to open the app every time we used the touch to enter feature, which we had to do often since the remote open feature rarely worked. Eventually Kwikset updated Kevo so it would play nice with iOS 6 and work properly in the background. Wrong. We still had to open the app over 50% of the time for the touch to open to operate. A week or so ago I noticed Kevo was operating properly and was hopeful the latest update had fixed the problem. Wrong again. It returned to it's usual, partially working self the next day. I wanted so badly to like this product but with all the issues and Kwiksets refusal integrate Kevo with Apple HomeKit I am changing brands. Hopefully the new lock will work as well as Kevo was advertised.

Bought this two years ago. We have been locked out without touching it and have locked it with incidental touch. We not have deactivated it.
