Terrible purchase ever

I bought this great piece of hardware without realizing that I will not be able to print B&W with empty color cartridges! This is absolutely day light robbery. They force you to buy color cartridges even when you never use them. I bought B&W cartridge hoping that it will at least print B&W documents but it refuses to work unless I replace the color cartridges which dried out because I never ever made color prints. I really want to throw this useless printer in the trash.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Constantly buying ink! I rarely print anything!

The ink dries out quickly. I rarely ever print anything. I scan or send a fax a lot. But it won't work if the ink is low. No way to bypass the low ink even if you aren't printing anything, just scanning or sending a fax. I don't receive faxes. I am constantly having to buy $$$ ink every month because it dries out! just to scan or fax ONE document! And now the device says it's not reading a BRAND new ink cartridge. GRRR I will never buy another Brother product. I've had this constant problem since I purchased this device in 2013.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Paper jams-- often while printing a second sheet of paper feeds resulting in two partial pages of test.

As we go back and forth most all of my fellow Engineers and I agree that the Brother brand is our go to printer
