I've had my printer for about 3 weeks. It is fast and quiet. Was easy to set up. I love it.

Good Printer

This printer has good features, fax, scanner, document feeder, duplexing, and color printing at an economically sustainable level. So far I have printed over 300 double sided sheets without a problem.
I do have one concern.. When I printed business cards, I used colored, small scale fonts. They appeared a little blurry to the eye. I tried to fix the problem in various ways but nothing seemed to work. When using small scale fonts, they must be sharp to be completely effective. In this instance, this printer seemed to have a problem.

Has trouble printing to standard card stock
on November 10, 2011

Pros: This printer is fairly fast, and the print is sharp. The auto print head alignment feature is a huge plus. It also uses individual color ink cartridges.
Cons: This printer is a bit loud. It also has trouble printing to standard card stock. Many times it reports the tray to be out of paper when trying to print to card stock, even with nearly 250 sheets of paper in it, and when it does print to card stock the leading and trailing edges of the card stock in the middle are crumpled inward for over an inch.
If you don't need to print to card stock, this printer seems like a good one. If you do, then don't buy this printer.

promising, some cavils

The less-smearable ink is a big plus. The cartridges are alarmingly small, but they promise to be efficient. We'll see!
The color printing quality is good. Photo quality is impressive for a desk jet.
Unless you select "printer determines colors," no choices are allowed for HP paper. This is a new "feature" that, perhaps understandable, isn't helpful for nonstandard jobs.
If you want your printout to come out exactly straight, put in lots of paper.
The non-printer features are not my main interest, and I haven't set them up yet.

Everything, plus...

I purchased this printer to print wirelessly off my I Phone and IPad. It does this flawlessly. It prints on both sides if you wish (to save trees). It has a REAL paper tray. It has a large number of internet apps for different additional functions. It is fast and relatively quiet.
2 possible cons for you: 1)It is a full size office type printer. If you want a compact, this aint it. 2) Set up was fairly easy, but I'm no novice, If things with your network aren't great than make sure you install the DVD apps. It took about 30 minutes to set up. But it is working great wirelessly with all my office software including my billing software, printing onto insurance forms.

Despite some of the other reviews, I decided to upgrade my officejet 6500 to the Officejet Pro 8600. Wow, what a difference. Many reviews stated that it is noisy. I completely disagree. It is a full feature, quite printer. Many cool features and I love the touch screen. Definitely a good value.

Excellent product and price

I purchase this printer because it's a newer model but the price was same as older model officejet 6500. The sales person told me this one has high printing quality and lower ink use. The setup of copy was straight forward. The setup of print & scan was a little confuse because the software CD didn't list this newer model. After our CAD person tried to download the software from HP Website, everything was okay. I don't think I was able to figure out the setup by myself. But I guess HP support person could easily guide me through this. I have not tried setup of fax (seems easy in the manual) and any e-feature yet.
The printing quality is excellent, like a Laser print. But machine is loud and shaking quite a lot (so put it on a solid table).
